I don't think that just because they are unique that makes them good. And i'm not really a fan of the costume designs in Tales of games either.

Here, you want proof? Numerically, there were probably 30-50 rpgs TOPS on the snes that were in America. This is a huge reach for what I am calling RPGS, (ie I'm including a lot of games that barely fit the label). Even weighted down by that large number. There is simply a better ratio of games. (BoFs, FFs, Lufias, CT, DQs, SMRPG, SO) Look, I just named decent rpgs off the top of my head, and thats already 15 games that ARE GOOD....

From: RumourMaker18 I suppose that aspect never bothers me in games. I know people like sniffy put a lot of value on number of playable characters, but I've always thought that's sort of silly; I play (and love) mascot action games like Devil May Cry, Mario and the like, so I don't need more than one character in an RPG as long as that one character is well-done. Well sure, if you go comparing the game to completely unrelated...

Yeah VIII is probably my favorite entry in the FF series, but I didn't bring it up either as Squall and Rinoa do end up happily ever after, so to speak.

Is it because we equate new games with happiness, or do they just actually smell good? Probably a bit of both. And cosmic_9, if my games smelled like steak, I'd be kind of worried.

I've never done it, but I don't have a PS3 or 360. As a whole, I think its a concept that I don't care for, but I'm hardly the voice of experience.

it wasn't really fun, it wasted time but it was annoying. we ended at the most appropriate time, when someone started throwing around the term "j-rpg" .... well... BOF2 is one of the most gutsy RPGs to come to america

Unfortunately, a lot of people seem to judge it by playing the first 1 or 2 chapters, or by the fact that its an escort title. And it really does have an awfully slow start and a metric ton of filler. Clear that aside though and the whole Ratatosk/Emil deal was pretty gripping. Yeah, i know, someones gonna come in and say they saw the plot twists from chapter 1. Combat, i'd go so far as saying ...

Dragon Ball 3 for the NES was like a board game RPG i believe, it has never had a translation in English tough. The above are more RPG like than DB3... DB3 followed the story before DBZ. Strange because there was never a Dragon Ball 2 on the NES.. The original was renamed and redrawn and brough to the US in the 80s forgot the name of it but part 2 doesnt exist even in japan... strange.

IIRC the enemies walk around and bumping into them means a battle ala Chrono Series and Xenosaga. It's not random, but note that it can be hard to get out of the way.

I dislike them for the same reason you like them, the spontaneity. They`re just so jarring, drag you right out of whatever you`re trying to do, and force you to sit through a lot of stuff (such as loading, camera panning, attack animations) whether you want to fight or not. It`s just a clunky, inelegant solution that takes away control from the player. And I`d say they slow things down a lot more...

I'm about to start playing it and I actually have a question about it. Is this game manageable without the official strategy guide? I ask because the first game's strategy guide was a huge help in figuring out certain recipes and character endings and such.
