Whats the difference between 128 bits and 256 bits? < Internal bandwidth. > Is there any significant difference between, say, a 512 MB card and a 1 GB card? < The ability to run with higher quality game assets, mainly. It also helps with higher resolution and anti-aliasing settings.

Time for a new video card. If it's a dedicated card you can remove, you may be able to bake it and fix the issue, however.

Never heard anything bad about OCZ's PSUs...700w is way more than you need for a single GPU system though

4GB Memory Got Expensive

You're probably looking for DDR2. DDR2 is being phased out and replaced with DDR3. DDR2 prices are going up, DDR3 prices are going down.

Looked through all the other PSUs on newegg and that seems to be the best one for the price, so I think I'll order it

it just seems to me that the naming schemes are completely illogical and irrelevant to the capability of the card. why are the even in the 9000s ya know? or why jump from 9800 to 250. start at 1, and after that the next better one is 2 etc the little chart helps a bit, but the gtxs and gts and what not still make no sense in my mind, I'm going to read up on it more myself so I can grasp this. thanks for your help, I think you've...

" The 790FX motherboard I linked supports x16 in both crossfire slots (in addition to being able to run quad Crossfire), while the P55 boards only support x4 on the second slot. " Not according to the manufacturer website of the board I posted. The PCIE slots will run x16 individually and x8 in crossfire. But that's a limitation with the P55 chipset.

How good/bad is this graphics...

From: Aziel123 | #012 I would of waited untill the start of next year before upgrading the gpu, nvidia are releasing new cards, which should effectivly lower ATI's high end card prices as well. Alright I'll just wait till next year to upgrade parts. I'll get a newer one (new atm) then since I prefer controllers/consoles.

And it doesn't have to be an ATi card... I'm just under the impression that those are the best ones at the moment. Will probably build after a month and I haven't looked into if nVidia's releasing anything good. But shouldn't make a difference for the PSU.

If you're not buying till next summer, just scrap that list and make it again as close as you can to the actual purchasing date, seriously. Things will all have changed way too much by then.

Knowing what you currently have would help, but at 180W, I don't really think there are many options.

Im upgrading from a x1950 pro to a HD4850 but I will be also upgrading my processer from a amd x2 3800+ to a amd x2 5600+. I would suggest upgrading your cpu so you can get everything out of it.

I would get a 700 or 800w power supply that way you most likely will never have to worry about it again.

The GTX 300 series cards should be very good, but there release date still isn't set in stone, so I doubt it will be before March of next year. Personally, I'd get a GTX 260 now, use it and the 8800 GT to get GPU/PhysX operation, then seeing how the GTX 300 cards do and making a decision then.

It will make a huge difference in your day to day computing, and it shouldn't be a problem to install in any system (you'll just have to install windows onto it after you get it plugged in and set the boot order).

A 9100's pretty bad. Add a decent video card though and your computer could probably beat your consoles easy enough. Keyboard+mouse takes some getting used to but it's a far superior control option for fps and rts type games. For most other stuff you can also use a 360 controller on your pc.

> APIs - what are these and what do I need? < DX9: Used in virtually every current game and most titles going back five years or so. DX10: Introduced with Vista and compatible hardware - sadly, it's been almost a total flop. DX10.1: An update to DX10, supported by like three games out there. DX11: The newest update to Direct X, hopefully this one will do better since DX9's getting a bit ...

Well, it used to be the Radeon 4850 but they've become a lot harder to find and a bit more expensive. You can just about find a GTS 250 for that, there's a couple on Newegg for $110. You can easily find a 9800 GT for that but I'd strongly suggest ponying up the extra $10 for the GTS 250.

About the same as the 4670, a fair bit worse than the 4770.
