Verify the integrity of your game's file cache. Where in the game is it freezing?

I love Windows 7! It solved the issue for me and gave me a link to a Mass Effect 1.02 patch. Now it works! :D

All good points jf....I'm currently playing on a 1080p 22 inch monitor so maybe that's why I'm impressed. I was playing for a short while on high settings and yesterday I figured let's see what happens if I crank it up so I switched it to ultra-high and it made a drastic improvement esp on close up textures and such. And with no negative effect on gameplay so I was happy. Thanks for your input!

I played it on 360. Controls were shoddier, but animations and graphics were better. Up to you.

This game is absolutely stunning.

the only thing that pissed me off was the sidequests having the exact same layout and interior. I was in love with this game up until my first optional planet (and finding out all almost all of those vast numbers of planets were simple text! soab!) then I figured out how short the main game is in comparison but I am used to it after oblivion+jade empire. very nice game still looking forward to the sequel

From: NightwishRulz | #003 You only need internet access to register the game. You can play the game just fine with no internet connection. That doesn't help me if it won't even recognize I'm online to begin with. And I've pretty much given up, I've checked many forums I've looked up online for ways to fix it and most of it is related to Vista, I can't find any way to fix it on Windows 7 so it recognizes...

Hmmm, yeah the only thing I didn't like about Adept was only getting to use basic armor but I gotta admit I don't really fancy shotguns. They'd be a lot better if you could fire more shots before having to cool down, though I'm sure maxing it out helps there a bit.

There is no SecuROM removal patch for the Steam version, since the Steam version of the game has no SecuROM. The only thing that comes close to this is that the installer for Bring Down the Sky adds a few un-used SecuROM dummy files when you install it for the Steam version of the game and doesn't clear them away. You need to use the SecuROM removal utility to remove them.

No chance, really. If you are going the new computer route, get a desktop, not a laptop. Cheaper, and I'm sure you can still use your current laptop for your other needs.

I don't think the res is CPU dependant, not the lower ones anyways. I have my PC hooked up to my 720p hdtv, so naturally I play at 1360 X 768. My processor is only a 2.2ghz dual core, and this game runs at a near consistent 60fps, probably drops to 40 in the citadel though. Running a ATI 4850 I think Mass Effect should run totally fine on your comp.

First it sounds like you might need to defrag. Otherwise, verify your file cache in the game options on Steam. But my first suspect with skipping like that is because of hard drive access.

i've played around with this for an hour. if you try anything other than the standard WASD setup, it breaks the menus because there's some hard coded xbox controller settings that get in the way.

Oh. If it matters, my graphics card is a ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650, and I've been able to run Borderlands and TF2 at almost full settings. The laptop's a HP Pavilion dv6t with an Intel Core2Duo processor (2 Ghz, 2 Ghz) with 4 Gb of RAM.

I overplayed Mass Effect on the 360, its one of a few games that I have got 1k achievment points. I recently bought it for pc as it was very cheap, I was amazed at how different it was. visually the 360 wins, that is if you have a large HDTV, you just can't compete with HDtV, well if you can afford a 50" monitor then maybe lols. In every other aspect the pc version really owns the 360 version...

K&M > controller for Mass Effect. Plus, what are you doing owning such an unreliable console anyhow?

You don't get any more items/money, etc. from going renegade in this game. The only reward that really changes is what the Consort gives you.
