yeah, I loved Giana Sisters on the Commodore 64. This one looks pretty promising from the screens

Yes, for a while it is. IMO 7-7 is the first really challenging level here, but you will be surprised with world 8.

I'm having a little trouble getting all red crystals at level 4-5, as one of the crystals (the second one you find) is impossible to get without falling in the water. Can you help?

If you're feeling adventurous, try Goolging the German eBay site: there are scores of them for sale there. The only snag is that you've got to wade through everything in German, obviously, but your regular eBay account is still valid and you can log in with it perfectly well.
