Your main issue will be your hard disk system, not the CPU. Uncompressed capture will require a 2 to 4 disk RAID separate from your nearly full OS drive. If you use the included MJPEG software compression, the CPU speed will determine how much you can compress on the fly. You will still need a separate capture drive for reliable performance. The MJPEG file is considered an intermediate. You would import this into an editor and the export to a...

I really don't know why people bother with MACs, there is nothing special about them since they just run on the same computer hardware as any other PC. Right now I am running Snow leopard OS on my Core2Duo. It was really simple to load with empire EFI. On my rig Snow Leopard runs as fast as any MAC computer runs it. I also have another hard drive with Windows 7, as Well as another hard drive running Ubuntu. So the question with a MAC is...

This is true for me, but it's more an issue of skill growth over a period of 8-9 years than anything else. It's not hardware related. There have been SOME advances in software, but not a lot -- not like most...

A rule of thumb is every 1 MHz of bandwidth translates to about 80 "lines of horizontal resolution" as read from an EIA resolution chart. That means 3 MHz VHS luminance bandwidth achieves about 240 lines of horizontal resolution where 5MHz S-VHS luminance gets to about 400 lines. I think everyone here knows this but for those who...

Surely you are better off with a good VCR attached to a TBC feeding into a capture card that you can do uncompressed capture with. I really don't see the point in introducing compression during capture. Get the video onto your hard drive uncompressed then you can do anything you want with it, including editing and finally deciding on a codec for final...

I normally use 3 HDD's with new computer builds for video. Most video operations are between the two additional drives. I put the programs on the boot. The boot drive is accessed by the OS almost constantly, so not a good setup for fast disc access. Partitions on the boot drive don't really help either. Same drive, same controller. But glad you got it all working better.

Email sent with .wmv file attached. Yes, it was a transfer from a July/1993 VHS "master" tape. I edited all my original footage out of the camera onto master tapes. I only had the master tapes.

This is a wind-up. Right ? But if you are serious........... ANY video capture software, Ulead as an example, will do a MPEG-1 direct capture. What you are asking is a means to store a video stream that would be seen through a camera's lens but then viewed on a laptop or some other mobile PC and then captured in real-time with this software. All you now need is a cable to ...

I've used a ADVC-100 for several years and never any problems. If you are capping from VHS sources, DV quality is more than enough, IMO. It's DV output should be exactly the same as your camcorder DV output. If you are using a internal capture card, Lagarith or HuffyUV works well, but expect file sizes of about 25GB/hour. DV is about 13GB/hour. Unless you are doing extensive editing/...

The noise at the bottom of the frame is on the video tape. You don't see it on TV because televisions overscan the frame -- they don't show you the outer edges of the frame. The wavy lines throughout the image may be due to noise interference from a ground loop somewhere. Post a sample image showing the problem.

It will record at the same resolution as the input. If your input is 1080i or 720p, that's what you'll get. No need to worry.
