Cooking for an Omni?

I think even the standard "meat and potatoes" diet can be easy to veg*nize. If your Mom likes the potato/pasta/starch sort of thing there are plenty of those in the world. Just keep your (or HER) meals similiar to those she likes but with non-meat ingredients and throw in some veggies on the side. I can identify because my parents don't like ANYTHING with spices or what THEY deem "ethnic" or...

why is bone char added?

What you're thinking of is SOME cane sugar is filtered through bone char during processing. There is no bone char in the final product, and only some cane sugars use this process.

No, and different types of fruit don't go together well, either. All depends on digestion time and also how much fat you've had already and what other undigested food in your tummy.

All of the Vietnamese restaurants I've been to have had very different menus. I order different things at each one.
One place has an excellent spicy veg mushroom and tofu pho.
Another has Dau Phu Ne, another has a sizzling tofu and spinach dish. The list goes on.
One of my fav places just asks veggies to order anything they want from the main menu and the chef will make it fresh using ...

So, I wouldn't call myself a vegetarian yet, but I'm aspiring!
I'm going to have sushi for lunch today with some coworkers. i LOVE sushi...
I'm not going to eat any fish though... Yay for me!
BUT I had a question about imitation crab--anyone know if this is OK?

in my experience, a lot of omnis tend to be wary of anything new and "weird", so it might be hard to pass off tofu or seitan right away. your best bet is hearty dishes where she won't even notice the meat is missing, like nice thick stews and soups, chili, and casseroles (bonus if you have a slow cooker this is all stuff you can just dump in the slow cooker on your way to work or whatever and be ...

I got to try this today at a cafe on a grilled cheese sandwich. Awesome that it melts....but not so awesome is the texture of this stuff (imo). Never heard of them, but they just appear to be meatballs in a white sauce? What makes them "special"?
I would use "Gimme Lean" as it has the most " raw hamburger" like consistency. OR a bunch of thawed, mushed-up boca burgers. I'd add about a Tablespoon (or two) of melted margarine to replace the fat that ground beef would have then use egg-replacer instead of the egg (egg-replacer seems to ...

some quorn chicken style pieces and fry them with onions and just pour over

There are recipes using brewers yeast for making your own root beer. Bake
it into some breads (I love making soft pretzels myself).

Pam, I would consider a couple of servings a week to be moderation. I think the key here is to avoid having processed soy every day, and to instead use whole foods like beans

I may be wrong about this but as far as I know Daiya cheese isn't really available for individuals to buy in stores yet, but is mainly used in food service establishment (though there seem to be some exceptions with some stores buying it and repackaging it for sale).
You can order it online at www.veganstore.com , but it can be expensive after you buy the cold pack (if necessary) ...
