Electric chokes- I have...
Published (2009-11-11 14:57:00)
As the choke is electrical what it does is warm the bi-metallic spring and this causes the spring to curl up tighter and hence no longer hold the choke closed. This electrical warming has less to do with the warmth of the engine than most people think. This is why a warm engine can be on choke slightly due to the bi-metallic spring cooling slightly since being stopped and started. The flaps are the main concern for warming the engine from cold...

The sunroof in my 69.
Published (2009-11-12 01:03:00)
You might find that the winder handle and possibly the drive box that it connects to may swap from other cars fitted with Golde sunroofs but don't quote me. I bought a chrome handle for mine on Ebay, allegedly it came from a Volvo but it's marked Golde and it looks like it will fit although I haven't tried it yet. As for the sunroof itself, I think I'd be correct in saying it will be a Beetle only item, after all what other...

Electrics dizzy go 009 or not or...
Published (2009-11-12 00:02:00)
You can tell you have a SVDA because it has both the vac can on the side, and a drive shaft through the middle where the rotor arm can be twisted about 10 degrees whilst holding the distributor drive at the bottom still. If it has a solid central shaft, it is vac only, if it has no vac can it is a centrifugral only distributor.

Should be able to engage all gears, engine in or out. What's the history of the car? Was it shifting fine until the engine was removed? Any other clues? SJ

I've yet to find a new roof section anywhere, you may have to repair your current panel, the seals can be obtained from the above links.

If the carb floods then the needle valve isn't doing its job for some reason. Maybe fuel pressure is too high, something is floating about in the fuel hose to the carb and is jamming the needle valve, the valve is a cheap crap part, or the valve gasket is the wrong thickness.

Your filter should be a VW 021115351A which is a Mahle OC28. According to the Mahle Aftermarket webiste the thread is 3/4"-16UNF-2B
You should be able to fit vacuum sensors without any problems as long as you dont add long lengths of pipe and everything's leak free.

Hi guys,
Im running a line loc on mt 75 bug. Im running disks on the front and rear (CB rear) and am having issues with my current Master cylinder. Now because this means i only need to run 2 outlets off the MC, can i use the single circuit MC rather than going for the more expensive dual circuit MC?
Cheers

When the fan starts, the pump should click repeatedly.
Does it?
That will tell if you have an elec problem or fuel-related.
Also, as I recall, the polarity of the pump wires does matter; if it is clicking, the wires may need to be reversed. (I could be wrong about this...)

I recommend a big ass scoop on your roof with some tastefully fabricated ducting to the engine bay and then drive balls out everywhere......
Hope that helps J...........

You shouldn't damage rings, but can damage heads or pistons. If you were running in then I guess you were going steady.
it shouldn't have leaned out too much though, I have run a 2007 on a stock carb & it ran perfect.

VW cuts mine at the Factory in Germany, had two done recently, they are not cheap but you do get them on NOS key blanks.
I can get you a price if you want if you give me the key code/year etc

I go with what VW recommended, 20w50 in the winter and SAE 30 in the summer. Castrol Classic all the way though I previously ran Morris Golden Film which I also rate highly.
If you have a spare 24 hours you might also want to have a read of this incredibly long and confusing thread on Thesamba.com http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/vie...t=official+ oil
