First, sleep. Then, friends. You will be last (sorry). If you want to find out what his life is like - invite his friends over and order pizza, sit and listen. Be prepared for a little bit of a downer the day before he heads back.

It's up to you. As a parent, I would have no qualms in making a deal. I pay your airfare, you sleep at my house. If he wants to stay with the gf he can get her to pay his airfare. If he doesn't like that deal he would be welcome to spend Thanksgiving in Colorado Springs.

From your first post it sounds as if your kid is acting like a punk. He'll figure it out eventually. If he pays his way he should do what he wants to do. If he doesn't necessarily do what you wish he would (eat your turkey, spend time with his family, etc) you're going to have to learn to live with it. I liked taking trips to visit friends and going places for Spring Break, but it was nice to go ...

This is a link to a good thread I read last year on the same topic. It's for a mid instead of a cadet, but some of the same suggestions may apply (some may not ). Best of luck! http://www.serviceacademyforums.com/...ighlight=gi fts

I understand both sides. It's called PARENT'S weekend. He's supposed to be with you guys who supported and helped them through his entire life. Without you he wouldn't be were he is today and some girl he's been with considerably less than the amount of time you guys have is taking priority over you. But, he is 18 and it's his decision. There really isn't anything you can do except ...

Airtran pulled out of Newark and airline X is really gouging us now. I just need a one way ticket for my son at Cmas, as he'll catch up w/ the team on his own for the team trip...Delta wants >$400 for one way! I called to ask them if this was a mistake. It wasn't. DS can get himself to a different airport and fly w/ airtran for $150 (still $50 more than what I expected to pay).
