VMI Founders Day 11 Nov
Published (2009-11-11 13:21:00)
In a light snowfall on Nov 11 1839 Cadet John Strange relieved the guard at the Arsenal in Lexington Virginia and became the first Cadet at VMI. The first Cadet class had 23 cadets - Cadet Strange became Colonel Strange, commanding Officer of the 19th Virginia Infantry and was killed in 1862 at the battle of South Mountain Maryland. Happy 170th birthday VMI. Hope that you let the cadets sleep in today in honor of the day!

Fuji, I can't say how much a success story like yours means, it helps me to think more positive about it all. Thank you for the encouragement and the last part you said.

My rat (a Third Classman this year) texted me the news earlier. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Evans family and the Corps - especially the Class of 2010 and Rat-tie Evans' Brother Rats. She also informed me that Cadet Jordan Iida, a Third Classman this year, had a stroke after PT on Monday. He's still hospitalized and is currently paralyzed on his left side. I knew Jordan pretty well... he was one of the young men who took the...

Could any one inform me on if it's possible to go to a SMC for a Coast Guard Commission? I know that the Coast Guard doesn't have a ROTC program, but is it possible to receive any sort of financial aid from them or anyone else for going to a SMC? Which SMC would be best for this? Has anyone done this before?
