Lots of folks get noms and not LOAs. It's the norm. You can get an LOA and not get a nom -- I've addressed the reasons for this on other threads. It is rare to get an LOA and not get an appointment for other than medical reasons -- however, USNA Admissions told the BGOs that it has happened and I believe them. My GUESS -- and it's only that -- is the most likely reason you could get an LOA and not an appt is that USNA moved too...

You are right Luigi and that may be the final decision. I think right now he is just exploring all available options. There is a possibility that he will be drafted next summer to play baseball. Just have to wait and see. Thanks again.

My Blue and Gold officers (I have applied twice) were not very helpful. I had a very hard time scheduling an interview with both of them. I tried to be patient at first, just send an email, then leave a message on their phone, but they never responded. Even after I got my interview it took both of them a very long time to send it in. Another thing that annoyed me was their complete lack of ...

LOA's are rare. The Class profile for 2012 shows approximately 3,800 applicants received nominations, only 1500 were offered appointments. You can have a nomination and not be qualified medically or physically...maybe even scholastically. The LOA without a nomination question has been better answered by others.

What specifically do you want to know? Men and women who are not NPQ (in other words, are physically qualified for unrestricted line) must choose that (with one exception). That means, you must choose surface line, subs (currently males only), USMC, or aviation (pilot or NFO, USN OR USMC). Men can also choose SEALS and EOD. There are variations on these (e.g., nuc surface). The one exception...

I don't know about people who already have a degree, but there are definitely people here who have had 3 years of college. I will say however, that if he wants Navy Intel that USNA is not the way to go. You have to lat transfer there from SWO after a tour. Marine Intel he can get but he has to do TBS. I believe (although I'm not sure) that he can do intel out of the other SA's, but Navy ...

Well, I'll offer my perspective from many years ago, although I'm sure a lot of it depends on the particular class and professor. I went to West Point, and nearly all classes were curved, at least after your basic plebe requirements (in which the grading seemed to be more by the book). I spent a semester at the Naval Academy as an exchange cadet. First exam we got back in Electrical ...

Seems highly unlikely to me, my guess would be they would do it like oceanography, where you go SWO get your qual, however long that takes you, usualy about 1 1/2 years then you would go to your specialty school.

I've never had to call the admissions office before so I'm not sure of the number. But I would give your Regional Director a call with any submission problems. My teacher was having trouble submitting my CFA results and he was able to work everything out. As for when it's posted, everything of mine submitted online was confirmed at latest a day later.

"I have two nominations now; does this increase my chances of an appointment or NAPS/foundation?" Yes. The more nominations the better. It gives the admission board more flexibility in getting you in somehow. Good luvk
