Its not Obamas fault its Clintons fault. Actually its Clintons fault but the republicans are partly to blame for not stopping Clinton and its the peoples fault for racking up massive debt they couldn't pay off. The banks played a role in this as well but they're the last entity anyone should blame. Clinton pretty much bullied the banks into lower their lending standards, which was the mistake of the decade, if not the century....

Err, as a longtime Republican registered voter, and a forced by necessity car salesman... heck, this is HOW it should be done to boost car company sales. Help the consumer to buy. That is HOW it should be done and NOT just give bail out money to the failed companies. The data I see which refutes the effectiveness of his program seems to insinuate that people would have bought new cars even if they COULD NOT get buck for their dumpster trades....

The link is just a tease, and the methodology and actual data isn't available.
So I'll take the number $24,000 with a rock of salt.
One thing the program required is that the cars traded be scrapped, which means that numbers of vehicles in the fleet was not increased by the program. Which would have less of an effect on future demand than say a 0% financing program, or the usual big cash rebate...
