It sounds like a project gun or possibly one that met
the Armory criteria for a sniper and was held in reserve but no further action taken.
My advice is that if the bore is in "good" shape or better...get it it will make a great project gun for a synthetic stock and decent cheap scope.

It takes at least 27
MOA to get to 800 yards. I would suggest you measure the taper and talk with the MFG about what is going on.

Are you talking about an M1 carbine?
If so, don't do anything to modify it if it's in very good condition. Any changes could lower the value if it's got
historic value.
There are plenty of non-historic ones out there too, so it could be worth anything from a few hundred to a couple of thousand.

Looks like Kimber has the WASR 10 and Scarwcrow has the SAR 1. Both
Romanian Kalashnikov's... I have a WASR 10.. The WASR 10 doesn't have the dimples stamped into the magazine well. These dimples keep the mag from wobbling...

From what I've seen on The Box O' Truth - Ammo
Penetration Testing , shooting shot out of a rifled barrel will have no adverse affects to either, as the shot is propelled inside the cup until after it exits the barrel. I'm no expert, but I believe this is the case with all shot. It never truly contacts the barrel.
I may stand corrected by someone that knows better.....

Selection of any firearm would depend on several factors:
1) What is your primary use for the firearm? (Will you primarily doing
target shooting, hunting, personal defense, plinking, etc.)
2) Will the gun fit you properly? (Depending on your body size you may need a shorter stock if it's a rifle or shotgun, or possibly a smaller grip if it's a handgun, etc.)
3) Will you be able to ...
