I completely agree. There have been plenty of qualified applicants in my opinion that have received a restricted permit and are extremely proficient with firearms.

I am definitely interested in the basic pistol safety course. I grew up shooting rifles and shotguns. But I am very new to handguns. I live in Pleasant Valley right next store to Poughkeepsie.

Only went for target and hunting for now, have heard way to many horror stories and such about applying for anything else in this county. Now one thing I did do, is after 6 months I started writing to anyone who would listen, congressmen, NYS officials, Town and County officials. Finally got a reply from the Erie County Clerk, and 2 days later a call from Will, the head of the pistol permit dept. Dont know if helped to speed it up, but from...

A little clarification - don't confuse a restricted permit (hunting and target only), with a premises permit. On your Dutchess app, you need to check the concealed carry box unless you want a premises only permit (usually for business owners).

It shouldnt. Just make sure you state it on your application. The investigating officer will most likely ask you for more information and a letter written in your own words on what happend. Be honest, dont try to hide anything You'll be fine.

Ulster County Application - Page 8
Published (2009-12-14 12:47:00)
I stopped in today at the Ulster County Sheriff's office on some business and mentioned about the delays I've been reading about "in the blogs" and asked the reasons for it. Maureen said that there is a backlog due to the (overall) judges schedules and that they want to interview each and every applicant. Keep in mind the real reason they are there is to adjudicate the criminals/accused - everything else is a...

Mine took almost exactly three months--just a few days short. Your mileage may vary.
At least it gives you something to look forward to in the mailbox every day. Good luck!

Just put 'for all lawful purposes." You would also check the concealed carry box, not the premise box.

I am an NRA Certified Instructor and an NRA Training Counselor in upstate New York and I'm not aware of an official designation as a CCW Instructor in this state. Each of the 57 counties outside of the City of New York has its own rules and requirements for an "unrestricted" permit and each issuing authority decides what training it accepts and from whom.
