Non hyphenated vs hypenated names Hyphenated version is easier to read, un-hyphenated version is easier to type. In fact, different users will tend to prefer one or the other so you can't afford to miss anyone. Also, if the name is hyphenated, the search engines give brownie points for the individual words in calculating rank. If it is all mashed together in one compound word then it is seen as one long word that appears on your page but...

Well, It was a case that people tend to use the domain name to seperate the keywords in thier domain name but it doesn't pay any benefit in SERP now-a-days, and is considered as spamming. In accure, if a webmaster wish to give a backlink to your site from his/her site they often use the domain name as the anchor text. So it is better to have simple domain name which one can easily remember. As people are less likely to type long confusing...

Well, as far as I know, hyphens in the domain name won't affect your search engine rankings and hence you can have a hyphen in the domain, however, as mentioned earlier, hyphens in the domain makes it difficult for visitors to remember your domain. Due to this reason, it is better to avoid hyphens in the domain name until it is very necessary i.e. you do not find a suitable domain name without hyphens.

Hi all First post. Actually, this problem is killing me, and after reading a few forums and blogs it looks like .htaccess is the only way. My problem, like for many people, is I have www dot mainsite dot com, www dot consumerinterestsite1 dot com, www dot consumerinterestsite2 dot com, etc. The consumer interest sites are where the content will be, and the main site will be just a simple corporate site. The bottom line is: Google has indexed...

I would prefer non-hyphenated domain names, as it is easy to remember. As you are going to be using your website to do more then just display products. You are using it to brand yourself, so what i think its good to choose a domain without hyphens.

I have noticed that some people keep domains the same as the name of the company. I think this is the best strategy as this keeps your brand name with your company. I did not find any company having a name with hyphens and hence I think it is better to keep domains without hyphens to keep the brand name.

Hi Wes,
People keep on saying that google will penalise for duplicate content, but google has quite intelligent spider and it never creates any problem for the main website hosting . Almost every website hosting is crawled by www as well as without www., but google gives first preference to the website hosting which has more backlinks and previous index record in google cache.

If you have just pointed the nameservers to IX Hosting then it is obvious that you pay the renewal charges to GoDaddy as it is registered with them. If you have transferred the domain to IX Hosting then you will be paying the renewal charges to them and not to GoDaddy. Please feel free to post, if you need any clarifications.
