Thanks for the info. I have the service sheet, but I'm not sure how to measure the LT and HT current drawn. With the pics I've uploaded, could someone talk me through this please. Many thanks.

What are the voltages on TR2 and TR3. If you think TR1 is faulty, swap it. I think Cricklewood have them. Where did the 'new' L6,L7 and L8 come from? Cheers, Steve P.

It could be an inductor in that case, try to find out what position the switch is in when it is connected, it is unusual for a wavechange switch to carry a heavy currect unless a valve has gone faulty or a short somewhere in the RF stage. But disconnecting should get other sections working if it is just a short when the switch is in that position. If a short is still there the input current will be excessive, parts will have to disconnected...

The studios are certainly there in Southampton, but do they actually broadcast from there? I believe they actually broadcast from the Fareham site which is about 17 miles away. It is a 1kW transmitter at grid reference SU546058. I think this site also broadcasts the Radio Five Live (909kHz) and Talk Sport (1107kHz). All of which I...

Well I did spray some contact cleaner inside near the edges of the coil, and it did release, but since the dustcap was missing and probably has been missing for a long time, tiny pieces of dust and metal particles have slid in between the coil and the centre, therefore now the cone moves in and out but it is very scratchy and only moves with force applied then remains where you leave it, I have already ordered the new speaker so the old one...

Pin 2 of the UF41 is the anode. This enables us to positively identify the 220pF capacitor as the upper one of the two sitting between the UF41 and the UCH42 on the CIRCUIT DIAGRAM. The other 220pF doesn't connect directly to a valve at all. The right hand end of the 220pF connects to several points one of which is S30, the other end of which goes to S1/S1a. If you can confirm that the other end of the unknown component goes to S1/S1A...

I would suggest unsoldering one end- I can't see how it would have failed unless something else was out of place (unless the 220pF from the UF41 anode is bad), but who knows what might be going on.....? If the set powers up reasonably undramatically, check the voltage at the UCH42 grid- it should be zero or slightly negative- if it's positive that 220pF is definitely suspect. The set's a live chassis type- usual safety...

DC mains set on modern mains?

I'm also curious about the radio under discussion. There were very few radios made to work solely on DC mains, as opposed to the standard AC/DC designs. Paul

Hello Bernt
Is this
http://www.radiomuseum.org/r/grundig...92_stereo.h tml
the same as your radio?
If so, it is definitely worth restoring. Grundigs are fantastic sets but can be a bit challenging to restore. Do you have much experience?

I have a feeling these have a grub screw. I'll have a look at mine today and let you know.
The corrosion doesn't look too bad,( I would be more concerned about the inductors, particularly the output transformer) so hopefully you might be able to get away with removing the control and dribbling some thin oil down the shaft into the mounting bush.
Nice easy ones these, and very rewarding ...

Just in case anyone's wondering what I'm rambling on about in here :p :
this is a scan of an advert for the Toot-A-Loop radio
I'm looking for some useful links for the other radios too, though you can just see in the link above some of the round Panapets at the rear right of the 'group picture' at the bottom right of the advert.

Hello and welcome,
How many wires are there going to the whole speaker? There should be two going to the voice coil (the bit which you've measured as 4 ohms) plus some others if it's a mains-energised [electrodynamic] one .
Where's the output transformer? Mounted on the speaker , or on the main chassis?
Could you post a picture of the speaker?
Nick.

A huge sigh of relief then John! What do you think caused the rectifier to fail - old age, or something like leaky reservoir or smoothing caps?

Hello and welcome,
These are nice radios, and should barely hum at all.
The selenium rectifiers can slowly deteriorate, possibly giving problems like this if only half-wave rectification is taking place. Might be worth a check.
Good luck,
Nick.

I am attempting to repair the Eveready portable serial number CO42972. I am at the stage where injecting an AF signal proves the audio part but the receiver will not operate with a modulated IF signal. The IF is said to be 425KHz but no signal passes at that frequency. Removal of the 2nd IF transformer shows that it will pass a signal at 302khz and that the trimming capacitors have an effect, ...

Make sure the selector switch on the PCB and the case selector marry up. Then look for dry joints.

Hi. You need to do a bit of tracing to see if you can identify any component it is connected to, you should be able to find it on the circuit. Can't help much I don't have a diagram.

The voltage rating of the replacement must be at least 350V. In practice you will be using a 0.047uF (47nF) part rated at 400V or 630V.
Since it's a battery set where the HT is pretty low you can use a 250V part.

One of them must have AF11x series transistors then! A quick search on this forum will show exactly how (un)reliable these are......
Better advice is replace them by AF12x series devices or you may be able to get away with silicon pnp types if you're lucky.
For more detailed help, someone may already recognise the exact sets (they just look vaguely familiar to me), but in any case, ...

Is the wavechange switch OK? The transistors rarely fail but it can happen. For that winding to go fully short is rare. Are you sure. Measure it out of circuit. What have you put in it's place - is it from another Roberts set or from another R200? There are 3 versions you know. The trader sheet up top gives all three versions.
Check C4 and the antenna coils.
Does the IF get out OK. It's...
