oil drain plug ??????

OK .......at last success ...Yep SEMTEX did the job ..blew the damn thing straight thru my house along with rest of Bike unfortunately the anti terrorist police are now after me. No seriously I resorted to brute force smashing a 3/8 drive bar end into the mushed hex with a big hammer then it came off easy with a ratchet on other end. But I am going to put aftermarket big bolt head oil drains on all my Ducatis.

Make sure you are trying to turn it the right way It's easy to get clockwise/anti-clockwise muddled when working upside down

Rusty Springs?

Thanks guys. I did get some replacement caps when I got the cover I just didn't think about the springs Would aftermarket spring heaviness counteract the lightness of the aftermarket slave and give you the same heaviness of clutch as a standard set up? No point getting her a shower cap though as the chances of me cleaning her aren't high just yet and I ride in the rain anyway so that would just look weird

Definitely go for the chisel approach, but be careful; you can do serious damage if you get this wrong. Start with a couple of knocks from the outside in towards the middle to get it started. Then, give the chisel a small angle in the direction you want it to turn (anti-clockwise looking at the head, presumably) - you still want to be essentially hitting towards the centre of the bolt or you'll just shear the metal.

If you've been to those two tracks you'll know if you do. I went to Rocky last year with a 14 front and needed the 15 to avoid just having to get the extra gear before the hairpin.

i find that when i wash mine, you get rusty water coming out of the clutch, Albie suggested a shower cap over it for when its being washed? :-) I have stainless springs and black caps on mine, and find it looks alot nicer.

Normal chain appearence?
Published (2009-12-10 15:05:00)
Cheers guys. As a newbie to bikes I'd be concerned as to what else had been left in a poor state. Quite a few of the fasteners (bolt heads etc) look to be tarnished somewhat too, is that normal?

That's good advice....there are numerous monsters for sale on fleabay and other places - MCN/Autotrader etc which to be honest will be in better condition than the one you have flagged up. Remember, it's a big purchase so if I was you I'd want to see something in the flesh first before parting with the reddies! Consider taking someone with you who is mechanically minded to help if needs be.... Regards, Mark

one thing that i am going to try before the chisel method is to get hold of a gutdown alen key and 'stick' it in with JB weld - might work ! now the fork seals have gone on my sport, so a bit more time in the garage.... Pete.

Yikes! Do you mean the thread is stripped in the cases and the plug is turning but won't come out? Or just the allen key is spinning in the hole?
If it's the later, you could try heating the cases (run the engine to operating temp, use a heat gun etc) then drive a slightly too large Torx bit into allen head hole.
You could try using a cold chisel against the side of the plug as well - ...

Moving the needle and changing the main jet do two different things, so I don't think it'll quite work out.
The main jet size controls the air / fuel mixture at wide open throttle, when the needle is fully out of the jet. The needle setting has no effect here as it's fully retracted from the jet.
The needle then throttles the jet size progressively as the throttle is closed, to give correct ...

I have just done the service and shim check on my S4 . 2 years ago I had to replace all the opener rockers as 5 were knackered at only 5000 miles ,I reckon the previous Japanese owner must have been very hamfisted . i fitted Megacyle rockers from Nichols in USA . Now 2 years and 7500 miles later they are all still perfect as are the closers ..I only had to replace 2 closer shims and 2 opener ...

I fitted a DPM clutch slave cylinder a few years back .... 25% bigger, 25%
lighter - makes quite a difference and not that expensive I recall.

Not ever having had one snap but I would say for sure yes. If it moves
round freely then for sure. Does it push back to level. I would say get it
done over the winter period as its the best time for a good stripdown. At
least its the horizontal one. It may have snapped leaving some sticking
out. A few more will be along shortly to give a better opinion.
