Great post Dave with some very useful pointers, the day was a completely nightmare for us with unbelievable stress, and like you say even if we had all the backups then it still wouldn't have been the end of the problems. It's a similar situation when changing hosts, epsecially if you have hundreds of domains on the server and a service inwhich hundreds of people rely on keeping live, not to mention the risk of losing Google rankings...

Why would anyone want to sell a 4/5 page website, thats making £200 a month? ha! We're all looking for those holy grails! I have a few "single pages" making over £xxx a month Its just about choosing the right niche, and a gap in the market - Get ya thinking cap on.

Got a few very old listings in directories where my domain thats listed is dormant ie. a dead page or 2. The directories aren't so easy to get into any more. Would the big G take a dislike to the domains just being redirected to a site that I need link juice for ? They aren't 'keyword' domains and the existing content could really apply to anything - just some product lists and not much text. Anyone done this and suffered ?

I won't beat about the bush or try and cover anything up....
The upgrade done by the host has caused an unrecoverable hard drive failure, also been informed that even though we had the top dedicated hosting package it didn't include backups (they were at extra cost which we were not informed about.. although i'm sure its mentioned in the T & C somewhere), and apparently they didn't backup ...

There's about a million more problems that just that when you start using datafeeds.
prices wrong, images broken or wrong, text duplicated, photos duplicated, etc and that's before you get to considering the state of the formatting of the data and why some days it'll be broken and some it'll work, and then when merchants change the names of things so they're spelt wrongly...

Sounds like the Affiliate Challenge a couple of years ago, which was a really great concept that the person who created it got a bit bored with and gave up on.
Good luck with the challenge - look forward to seeing the updates.

Have you joined MoreNiche yet??? As part of your membership you also get
access to their web forum which has a link exchange section for their
affiliates - as you're looking for diet links this would probably be a good
place to start!

Hi
I've got to be honest. I've read LOADS over the years how you start out with a campaign and if it's not successful, you 'tweak' it. Well my experience has been totally different. I've found things either work insanely well or will just cost me money. The things that really work DO really work. So I've found repeatedly testing things out is the key.
Just my results!

So what in your opinion is important. What do you use to get traffic?

It depends on the query. If it has loads of searches per month then yes,
you can make money even at position 10. Generally though for more niche
queries you'll need to be position 3 at the lowest to make more than a few
dollars a month.

I got rejected then emailed their support which reinstated me straight away without making any changes to the site.
I'm not that experienced on this but my advice is to try and get some feedback but to also make the most of the merchants you can use. It maybe that they are overwhelmed with work so it may not be anything personal.
