Third paragraph, dude describes his experience with avocado-pit consumption. I gather the experience was not a fatally toxic one. I must agree with his philosophy of moderation and caution whilst satisfying his curiosity!

Plant the seed in acidic soil in a pot, and keep warm and moist (but not too wet). They like hot humid climates in summer (30°C, high humidity), and a winter minimum of 10°C. They are quite easy to grow when young, as long as the air around them is not too dry.

Keep it where the pot will not freeze up, but the
air temperature will not cause the top to start growing too early. Maybe leave it where it is, wrap the pot with insulation if frost is expected to penetrate the porch.
And plant out early next spring, if winter is likely to have hard frosts that penetrate the soil.

If
anthracnose has rotted out main branches and trunk it is probably time for use as firewood.

Winter is the normal time to do major pruning on temperate fruit trees.
Late winter is better if there is a chance of winter injury, but Redhaven is hardy enough for this not to be a problem in Zone 6. I prune my peach tree any time of the year and have never noticed any negative effects.
