In my Church in November, we strive to remember those who have passed and appreciate the lives of those still with us. Now, on the cusp of Dec 1, the month in which we eagerly await the arrival of our Lord, both in the coming celebration of His Incarnation and the future ineluctable rejoicing in His return to us, it occurred to me that we should try to always be ready. And that entails rooting out the "leaks" in our hearts....

Paul's epistles are much earlier than the gospels, within 3-5 years of Jesus' death iirc. I'm not sure what the gospels have to do with Paul in this context. To answer your question at the end, no I don't think that's a fair statement at all being there were several well established churches by the time the gospels were written.
