I researched this a while back as a possible bachelor party activity. Almost everyone I asked recommended the Gun Store, but almost everyone also agreed it was super-touristy and that there were better (but smaller and less nice) places for locals. IIRC it was a fee of $50-$100 but you had to buy the ammunition separately (which gets pretty expensive for the automatic weapons). It was expensive enough such that drunken pai gow poker won out...

At least i can send/receive PM's now, so if any of you got infos on potential places (either some decent ext.stay suite to cover the first time after arriving or even better some offer in a nice poker-house) or any other tips, just drop me a line here or via PM. Most hotels have a liberal cancellation policy (usually 72 hours or so) so you can book a hotel early and then cancel if you change your mind....

Ok, I am a Europeans who just moved to Vegas 3 months ago, our plans are somewhat different but I hope I can offer some advice.
Firstly, Vegas is not the home of poker. If you can make it as a pro player, I think LA is a better choice. Depending on what stakes you aim to play and how much you want to live on, a real job + poker may be the better option.

Dennys at Casino Royale FTW!
You are, of course, better off one block east of the Strip at Ellis Island.
IMO, the best lunch for <$20 on the Strip is probably the TI Buffet.

1. I wouldnt send money until you see the place and confirm that its legit. Stay in one of the cheaper hotels on the strip for a week and look for a place.
2. Your best bet might be vrbo.com
3. Like i said before... youre asking for trouble if you book from france. Stay in a hotel when you get here.
4. Im pretty sure you need to get a US drivers license to register...
