How many miles on the clutch? What boost level are you running? If the clutch has a lot of miles on it and you are running higher boost than stock that might be why you have slipping. Maybe add a return spring on the clutch arm to help it return better? That is if the clutch isn't the issue.

I guess this is a 240. The hole is at the front of the tank so tilting the front up would drive the float towards the front while adding gas as well as raise it to the level of the opening or close to it. If it slipped to one far side or the other a tilt to the left or right also would slowly move it where it could be grabbed. Maybe even without air. Or a plastic magnet could be used. Sound right?

Yes, cam gear only. That is only on the earlier engines. Later 740/940 engines don't use the spacer.

Alternator issue. Choices?
Published (2009-11-08 23:23:00)
I wouldn't even bother testing a 55A. It's worth the few bucks for the core charge at the junkyard. 70A from a later 240, 80A from a later 7/9 series, 100A Bosch, or 100A Denso will all work. Get a top mount/adjuster from a late 80s/90s 240. I'm using a 100A Denso from a 940 turbo in place of a 100A Bosch that came from a 760 Turbo which replaced the 70A Bosch original unit on my '87 240. All mounted the same and used the...

Just FYI, 75Kpa is roughly 10psi. That said, i'd doubt 15psi would cause any harm. I'd tend towards condensation, no reason to believe otherwise.

Bent or broken clutch fork (aka arm coming out of the trans) or else the bolt that holds the clutch fork pivot in place has fallen out.

I just read a thread about this and how its always the rear driver door. Goto the junkyard or post on here for some good used door handles. Take the door panel off and remove your old handle and PB/WD40 everything inside the door real good including the new replacement handle. I added some Sil-glyde parts lubricant on the new handle and anything I could reach to prevent future problems.

Yeah, people that want them usually seem to be willing to pay some decent $ for them. They are not really common and we are talking about an accessory that probably hasn't been made in 20 years so you could call it rare.

If you could make it so it fits up to the later plastic covered bumpers. Then I think you would get more interest. Nothing wrong with commandos but the look of the newer bumpers is cleaner and I think more people have cars with them now.

Remove the injector rail with the injectors still in the rail and connected to the wiring harness. Place it in such a manner so that you can see if anything is coming out of the injectors. Turn the key to position II and see if one of the injectors goes full open and sprays fuel out at an alarming rate.

Might be the O2. Run the cat for a couple of hours hot before the test if it is new to break it in. I know some need to heat up for a while to get full function, mine did. Failed after a new install and then tried again after a few hot hours on it a day later and it passed. A quart of acetone in 5 gallons of gas might tweak it enough too.

The only other thing I can suggest is to see if you can locate another bobber. Then remove your tank pump and pop it into the arm. Also since the tank's not full when you remove your pump look and see if you can see the bobber floating around in there. If you can get a some mechanical fingers and see if you can grab it and lift it out. Good Luck!

Well I checked both of the pumps again. I don't know if they are supposed to turn ON when the car is in the ON position, but they don't. Also I visually tested the volume flow of fuel coming from the pumps, and it was like a small garden hose. Constant flow, not fast, but maybe 2 gal/min. Also I switched one of the white spark plugs with one of the black ones, and in just 5 or so minutes of ...

For half city usage, early LH-Jet, and automatic, that mileage sounds fair to me. Sorry I can't compare, all my 240's were K-Jet and their average usage never got lower than about 90% city usage (ie. half the time they didn't get time to warm up). I'd have been happy to get mileage as good as that, on average. OK, my (manual B23E) GT would do 23-24mpg on the highway , but the average was ...
