Looks like someone got a good cornet. The seller did give quite a lot of info. Apparently made in Austria to be sold thru Carl Fischer, who retailed a lot of foreign horns for many years. All I would have done is suggest Horn-u-copia also. Dougt there are many out there for comparison. I have seen similar wraps on some American cornets from the Ist part of the 20th century. Hope you find someone who has one.

Well, some guy selling a 400 on eBay failed a few times to sell his horn, so I got it at a steal! It doesn't have the art-deco features that I really want, but if I like the horn enough, maybe I'll try selling it for more to finance a different vintage... Hi, Bob... With good supersize pictures and a detailed description, your first-year 38B will sell and fetch a handsome price. Show the valves so people can see how the plating has held up. Indicate if the valve stems are tight with no lateral movement. Mention if the slides "pop" when pulled out (good compression). Note and show a case photo if it has the orginal case. Another selling point is if it has the original...

Conn Cornet

Re: Conn Cornet Still not sure if I want to keep this horn, spend a bunch of time and a bit of money fixing it up. It sounds like if I get it cleaned, polished and repaired it will be worth $200-$300 at the most. I'm thinking about offering the guy a month of lessons for his son. So, at $20/lesson...$80.00. Sound reasonable? __________________ Ken '53 Olds Recording '59 Olds Super Bach Model 37 '58 Conn 22B Victor (for sale)

If its up you want.....Yes, but if I can be really honest, there are some KILLER Olds supers on EBAY right now.The older the better. If everyone knew how these played they would go for 3-4 K. They are MAJOR lead open players. MARK? You there?

As always, try before you buy. Most likely it's a terrific player, but a few dogs were built, as well. My best friend in high school had one from that era that was not good--he'd often borrow my Ambassador which he preferred. On the other hand, our band director had one from the '60s and for me, it's the last word on how a trumpet should sound and play. Go forth, then, and find a good one...

Conn Cornet

Re: Conn Cornet I have several of these horns. Market value on E-bay right now is all over the place depending on condition and how complete the instrument is. Most important thing to check on the horn is the valves. If there is lateral movement (and there problably is for an instrument from the early 1900's) your'e talking about at least $250 for a valve job to make it work well. Chances are it's a dual or triple key...

Re: King Super 20 Trumpets Hi, If it says "Symphony" on the Super 20 is it a Silversonic? I have a chance to buy a horn and the seller says that it has a "DB" on the 2nd valve casing, a sterling silver leadpipe, and it says "Symphony" on the bell (along with other info)....Any idea how to figure if it is a #1047, 1048, etc....Thanks, Mickey

I just picked this up on a whim and found out it is a 1967 student horn. I bathed it in dish soap, rodded it out with the brushes, and allowed it to dry in the open air. The thing plays like a student horn but the valve springs are noisy. You can hear them flex in the bell when not playing. Is this normal or did I reassemble the valves wrong.

Trumpets and Cornets- telling the difference. Since this subject keeps coming up, and since there seems to be a lot of misunderstanding about trumpets and cornets, I've been trying to think of a simple way to communicate the difference between trumpets and cornets, and what I've come up with is a little show-and-tell: Here's the cornet ordinaire , aka valved French post horn. ...

Here are two trumpets that showed up on ebay. I did a search both here and on google but I am still not clear if these are related. One site seemed to link them in that it said that the Super Star Ultrasonic was a 'customizable' trumpet which is what I understand the Custom Crafted model to be. Is there a significant difference between these? I noted that on the Ultrasonic the leadpipe curves ...

Delinot - Brass Trumpet - made in France - eBay (item 160344840171 end time Jul-06-09 12:15:17 PDT) [url] This came up on ebay. I have never seen anything like it and other than the fact that it has 8 keys/valves(?) which may be equivalents to the 8 valve combinations (counting OPEN amd both the 1-2 and the 3-only) on a regular trumpet, it is not apparent how this might be played. Does it ...

Hello everyone! First, I'll introduce myself and my horns, then I'll ask my question... I played trumpet from 4th grade through high school, and now that I'm in college I play mostly for my own enjoyment, though my old band director swears he's going to start an alumni jazz ensemble soon. I started playing on a Chris-Kratt Super Deluxe (made by Huttle in the 60s), and played that all ...

I'm posting this in "Vintage" because I need a repair man who is familiar with vintage cornets and trumpets and can find or fabricate replacement parts. Does anyone have a recommendation for a shop in the Philly area?
