Thanks Chops and Mendez. I was beginning to think my memory was failing me. I didn't remember ever seeing any as a kid (always played Olds) but suddenly they are all over the place. Was thinking of adding them to the throw on all my horns. Guess that is okay and want affect anything.

Thanks to everyone who has posted so far; however, this is sort of what I expected--everyone likes them both. I think eventually I will probably be compelled to own both of them as well.

Wow, I am so glad I stumbled upon this site....now at least I have an idea where to start...Still, there are so many options that it is a little overwhelming -- I am watching several olds ambassadors, holton collegiates and a few getzen's on ebay. I am going to check out the trumpet herald suggestion and look at the ebay suggestions I got from everyone. Thanks for everyone's advice -- keep it coming! Ellen

I think you guys are hitting on some excellent points, and that is the quantity of models actually produced. However, how many of those are actually in good playing condition without needing extensive valve rebuilds and/or other work? You see many Conn 22Bs grace ebay from week to week, but most of them are in obvious need of some serious work to get them into playing condition. This also plays into the relative price creeps for pristine...

Older Bundy's, while student horns, are quite good student horns built in the USA. As for the company, they were built by Selmer. I believe the newer ones are built overseas, and not as well regarded.

A repairman can fix the brace easily. I have an Olds Ambassador cornet (1967) and indeed, the third valve slide must
put out very carefully, it is possible just to shave it out along the bell, be careful indeed. It is the normal construction.

I, too, have a Tone Crest! It is one of several I inherited from my Dad, who was one of the great Swing Era musicians. Information on this brand is scarce and I hope someone out there can enlighten us.

Ok, speak of the devil, the old 80A just got home from Andersons, new valve job, the replate was done around 1973, valves were wore out then. My grandfather bought this horn new, it is a 1921 Conn Victor New Wonder long cornet. The A to Bb mechanism was stripped off before I was born. I got a little better picture of this one, but still trying to figure it out. She looks great to me and sounds ...

A Symphony model trumpet. 1928. Worth about nothing, unfortunately. On ebay it might get $100 to $200 depending on condition and originality, condition of the case, and so forth.
LP is "low pitch" and 212 is the model number. Depending on the finish, it sold anywhere from $90 to $225 when new.
The catalog says that this horn is an "all-around" trumpet.

Welcome to TM. Do you play?
The serial number looks to be from 1922-1924 depending on which list. All early Libertys up until about 1930 were available only in medium bore, 0.448. By 1932 they were available in three bores: Artists Model #1051 with a Bore of .468, Medium Model #1050 with a Bore of .448 and Small Model #1049 with a Bore of .438. If you have a very early Liberty it was ...

Don't spend too much money on this 'project'. The resale value of that horn will not justify it. In other words, you will never get your money back.

Re: Vintage Olds Mania That is interesting you post that, as I came on here to research potentially purchasing an Olds Recording. I am getting back into playing, as I played through college and grad school, doing some minor freelance, paid gigs/brasse ensembles on top of the collegiate jazz ensemble; however, I would not consider myself good enough to go into a good jazz club. ...

Martin Committee Welcome to the forum. I don't know about the numbers but Martin changed hands a couple of times during the sixties as you can read from info in the Martin history attached. Specifications on instrument # Check out I.D. 3649 . The notes with the Martin Indiana said the final version of the Indiana was made in 1962.

You need to know the model name or model number
to determine if it is a student trumpet or a professional trumpet.
Ask what is engraved on the bell and what is stamped on the mouthpiece receiver.
Then compare to the list at Brass Review.com - Holton
and at Brass Review.com - Holton
If that is the original case, then I would guess that it is a student trumpet.
Which would ...
