We have all these trumpets so that we can die with the most "toys" Seriously, when you have a career in classical music you will understand.

Re: Why so many differently pitched Trumpets? I enjoy the fact that I can play in multiple different scenarios and have different horns to create a unique and beautiful sound. Plus, it certainly doesn't hurt to have easier fingerings on some licks! __________________ Mt. Hello all, As you may, or more likely may not know, I am an English 14 year old, and like all 14 year olds need more money, and like all English have an idea to do so. It is far from original, but I am thinking of teaching the trumpet to people that are not as good as me (logical eh?, so basically complete noobs. So, here's the question, how should I go about doing so? My plan was to ...

Practice Away From The Trumpet So I know there is an excersice where you blanace the end of a pencil in your lips with it pointed away from you for lip strength and that you can do different breathing excersices without the trumpet, but do you guys have any other techniques to improve my trumpet playing without the trumpet? Stuff to do maybe if my lips are gone after playing or ...

So, I was having trouble with my valves and took my trumpet in. The technician said it needed ultrasonic cleaning, and they had to do something to get the "buildup" off the valves (did he say polish? I'm not sure). Now I bought the horn used, but it worked nicely when I got it, and have cleaned it regularly - but still ended up where the valves were getting worse. He asked what oil I was ...

short (Jazz) valve trumpets I recently bought a Holton Super Collegiate. I love the smaller bore (.455) and the shorter quick valves. What a combination for playing in a jazz band. I know Holton made other trumpets with this combination like Al Hurt Special (I sold one for $100 towards a King Silver Flair about 10 years ago..stupid me) and Maynard Ferguson. I was wondering what ...

For me, it was Harry James. My Dad had this old LP that had the Brave Bulls on it and that was my very favorite. He had such a sweet, honey-like tone. Also, had the one of him playing Carnival of Venice.. Then, I moved on to Al Hirt, then Doc Severinsen. My favorite Doc album was Doc Severinsen's Closet with these somewhat cheesy Don Sebesky arrangements. Of course some of them were pretty good,...

I've tried looking acrossed the internet for other issues like mine but it came up with too much stuff so I had to find a forum to post on. The problem I am currently having is that my range will not increase at all. I've been playing the b flat trumpet in school since 6th grade and will be in 10th grade this next year. Currently the highest I can reach is the "A" above the staff or ...

Any advice for how to help my 5 year old with trumpet? I have a son that just turned 5 at the end May. For nearly his entire fourth year of life, he begged for a real trumpet, after seeing one hanging on the wall at the music store. Everyone musical that we have talked to has advised us that you do not start trumpet until late elementary age. Taking their advise, we bought a ...

Thought this might be a fun discussion: If you could play one and only one solo from your favorite performers to show off to a friend in order to prove how good he/she was, which would it be? Immediately coming to mind for me: Maynard Ferguson: Foxy This is from either his Echoes of an Era re-release or the Mosaic Collection if you're lucky enough to have it. Amazing technique, ...

Never buy a horn from a company without a decent return policy I was looking for a cornet and I found the web site of a store where they sell trumpets and cornets "made by Schiller, Frankfurt, Germany". I asked info about these trumpets and I got an immediate reply that they were excellent instruments. I bought a new Schiller trumpet and when I received it I was incredibly ...

Since becoming interested in the trumpet for the first time and music in general again, I got out my long idle clarinet today and was wondering if the two instruments complement each other embouchure wise? hopefully I'll be able to play both without any problems. Thanks.. knotty

Hey guys, I've had the same horn for a few years now, and I don't believe that I'm going to change. So, I've decided that after marching season ends this year, I'm going to get it professionally UV-cleaned, and dent removed. But then, once I've done that, I'm gonna want to have a little fun with it. A friend of mine has his Tenor Sax lacquered with a color / brand / type of lacquer called "Black...

Hey, I'm new to this site, but it seems pretty great :). Anyway, I was curious to get other's opinions on the International Trumpet Guild. Is the fee to be a member worth it? What are the pros and cons, in your opinion? I'm just not sure if the guild provides that much, but I didn't know if you other players had more experience regarding it. Any help would be much appreciated!
