I found that my tonguing works best on a funnel shaped mouthpieces. If shallow C cup gives you troubles, try a shallow V shape mp - it may fit you better.

I used to play a 14A4A for big band when I was younger (up to about 45 years old). I could switch from my Schilke 18 back and forth at will. Now those pieces are 15 minutes glory and then nothing more comes out - period. My chops seem to swell more than 10 - 15 years ago. I just use the equivalent of a 14B, all of the sizzle that I need is there, and 2-3 hours is no problem. It is not worth the effort. I need to be able to switch on short...

ONLY if you have a reason for switching. You have probably been listening to people telling you that as you get more advanced, you might want to switch to a 3c. That's a common idea out there. However don't just switch because people tell you to. Switch because you have a problem with your current one. If you do decide you have a problem with it, other than "I've been using that one for five years and it's...

Re: Reeves 1 piece vs 2 piece mouthpieces and other questions... Haha woah reading brainfart there on my part!! So sorry to insult you like that :-p. The one time I tried to play flute, I about passed out! I suppose that's what you get for being bored in the pit orchestra... I don't see the derlin rims on their website, maybe they have discontinued them? I'll have to ask about them when I call, I suppose! __________________...

Good is what works for you. There is no cheating neither substitute for hard and diligent practice. Many use 14A4a or similar for piccolo and high register playing on the "big" trumpet (lead or commercial).

David, ANY mouthpiece has to be played to figure out if it is good. None of our opinions apply to your face. I play Monette mouthpieces. I have both slap and non slap versions. I just put them in the horn and play. They are both comfortable, in tune, easy responding and have a sound that I really like. Even although I have been playing Monette mouthpieces and horns since 1997, I can't ...

I truly think the Kelly pieces are more than just plastic for cold applications. I can make mine sound good. In fact, I am going to buy a couple more, in smaller than the 1 1/2 C I have already. veery
