Bach bells?
Published (2009-11-29 22:23:00)
Don't know why I am having so much trouble with this; Schwab said: A fast taper gets wider closer to the bell bend, a slow taper gets wider closer to the bell. Badmangood said: fast taper is a quicker widening at the end, slow taper starts closer to the valve sections and expands slowly Somehow, I see these as saying the opposite. Maybe I am concentrating on the very end flare of the bell too much. Ideas. Anyone got a pic?

OR! You can buy a used Yamaha Xeno, I became fond of my friends one that he had, but their a few thousand for one right? Well Carolina crown uses them for a season or two and sells them for only about 1000, they arnt laid down on pavement because they practice in the grass, they all wear gloves, and they have brass techs looking at em during the summer TheCrownStore.com um keep a look out eventually they should have some trumpets posted. I played an Ambassador that sounded like a trumpet with a weird wrap. I wouldn't want one for a cornet. Don't know about the other one. Play both if you can. Tom

OH whoops my bad - I know what shape goes with what sound, and went with the words that were logical to me (apparently not to those who came up with them though...) I seem to have been doing that a lot lately...

older bach 37 or xeno?

I like the Xeno sound a whole lot. I also like the superior fit and finish of the Yamaha pro instruments. The reason to buy is not my preference though. My wife probably wouldn't be any good for you either, and she is definitely my preference.

What ever happened to Blessing?...

I had a chance to play an old Blessing from the 50's and that was a nice horn, very open and cut like a laser.

Re: Should I buy this trumpet? Your link above is broken, but I assume your talking about the Barrington BRG125995. I personally wouldn't do it. You'd be much better off getting a used Yamaha student horn (model 2335) on ebay. There are a bunch of them for sale right now in the $200 - $350 price range. They go for about $1000 new. There is also a silver 4320 with about 16hrs left on the bidding. It's currently in the...

There's a review and comparison of the BE1020 here you may find of interest: The Battle of the Cornets | 4barsrest.com reviews The Besson looks like a really attractive deal. It's new, and you have a 7-day trial period with Omega. Why not give it a try?

Two questions: Baroque Trumpets and Eb/D 1) What are people's opinions of various baroque trumpets? Obviously the similar top brands don't exist, so if anyone is experienced and could give me a guideline about them, that would be extremely helpful. Also, what about natural trumpets? 2) What is the standard Eb/D trumpet? (Like the P5-4 is standard piccolo) What are some other...

Should I buy this trumpet? I am a high school student and I started playing in 4th grade (currently in my 7th year of playing.) I am looking to upgrade from my student model trumpet. It is even the right trumpet ...

The word you want is "quarter" as in one forth. The music of the Middle East and Mediterranean use one forth steps between some notes. The forth valve has half the tubing length of the second valve on your trumpet. Miles Davis played quarter tones by half valving and used the quarter tone in his music. Jazz improvisation can sound very innovative using a quarter tone trumpet.

Some reasons may be; worn springs, loose top caps, debris in valve making it stick, wrong oil, missing felts, spacers or corks, etc.

Start with Schilke; it would be pretty unusual for them not to support their own product. Also check MK Drawing ( M / K Drawing & Bending - Welcome ) I have two slides from them and am quite pleased. Their slides start at $170US.

Trumpet Rentals Can someone point me in the direction of a quality trumpet rental? I'm looking to rent a strad model 37 (long term). Does Dillons do rentals? I couldn't find anything on their site.
