Thank you for the response only answer I could get out of anyone else was I dont know.The 08 and 09 Macks pull good IMO.The 09 Sterlings with the Detroits do a good job also of pulling hills,they dont loose 3 to 6 MPH before the cruise kicks back in like the Mercedes engines do.

Probably the noise you describe is the Volvo MP7 EGR system. EGR is Exhaust Gas Recirculation. Some exhaust gas is reintroduced into the intake air system. Each engine manufacturer has their own way to accomplish this. The exhaust gas goes through the EGR cooler before in enters the intake system. The 04 Macks had Mack engines instead of Volvo manufactured engines. They also had EGR which is part of the reason the engine fans ran so much. The...
