The Giant Palouse Earthworm really does exist: species Driloleirus americanus, status Threatened. What's Sasquatch's taxonomy and status? Local expert Kewaunee Lapseritis would know (he says they are psychic, gather around Mt. Adams, and can teleport). I heard him speak (at length) once. This is idle chatter. Have a great trip, Erik.

I love both those places. I don't think of them for great seafood (maybe I'm wrong about that) but they have old-timey authentic "Market" atmosphere and perfect views out over the Sound. I think they are both open all 3 meals each day? -suze

sure. Why this trip in january ? 1)I have part of january totally free so I'd love to take this unprecedent opportunity to explore part of USA I have never enjoyed, being my experience limited to the East coast and SF/ LA . 2) I have to spend bonus Airplane-Miles now . Think about a 24dd trip. Mainly done by train. Why ? Less problem, more time to enjoy; scenic views; cheaper if I buy the Amtrak Pass. I'm used to...

Christmas Dinner
Published (2009-12-10 19:30:00)
13 Coins is close to the Pan Pacific and will most assuredly be open Christmas Day unless they've radically changed their policies. If you're looking for something withing walking distance that's a little more downscale, try the Hurricane Cafe at the corner of 7th and Bell. They do 24 hour diner food there with a full bar. I don't know if they'll be open, but definitely give Shilla a call as it's an experience...

For reasonably priced seafood in the Pike (no 's') Place Market... there's the Market grill near the pig statue. It's a lunch counter with excellent fish sandwiches, chowder, cole slaw, etc. Jack's Seafood (fish vendor) also has a small counter with similar offerings. Emmett Watson's Oyster Bar is my *favorite* an old-timey cafe, north end of the Market. They have excellent fish & chips...

Just going around the block there are quite a few places, most on the casual side.
On From the northwest corner going counter clockwise, there's Genki Sushi, a vegetarian Chinese place, another Thai place (Chinese? not sure), Sushiland, Mc Menamins, Teatro Zinzanni (not exactly what you're looking for as they are having an event there), The Boiling Point fondue, Taco Del Mar ...

For the most part you will be going against traffic from Tacoma to Sea-Tac, but I would definitely allow some extra time. If the motorcade and processional for the recent fallen Seattle Police Officer is any indication, this is going to be a HUGE deal, and traffic will be impacted all over. Just given the magnitude of the situation, allow a lot of extra time so you can focus on paying ...

Lewiston Idaho is the nearest town with a paper. Clarkston is a suburb of Lewiston.
There is an article in their paper speculating that it will open on Sept. 2. I couldn't read the article without getting a login. If you're traveling there, it might be worth getting a login to get local event information.

answer will depend on when your driving, what day and time etc. To get to Pa you'd have to take a ferry from dowtown Seattle or north at Edmonds. Its a scenic ferry ride but if it means rush hr then driving around via the south route makes sense. It would also matter where your staying or are you leaving direct from the airport?

I can speak to the Vancouver to Seattle experience, but the Amtrak Cascades from Seattle to Portland has a pretty miserable food selection. I am assuming it's the same on the YVR to SEA route.
Try to get breakfast before you hop on the train.

Harbor steps is just steps away from the Pike Place Market, and its parking garage elevator will take you down to the waterfront with all of its attractions (including the ferry terminal and the water-tour terminal). It is steps away from getting on the free bus for a ride down to the International District and Pioneer Square, and you can hardly throw a rock down there without hitting a...

I always recommend going directly to your hotel, as you will want to deposit your luggage. Though I would not count on it, in some cases, I have found hotels to be quite gracious, and let us check right into the room if it is available.
You usually depart the ship beginning at 7am, with staggered departure times.
There are plenty of options. Where are you staying?
