Hotel Suggestions
Published (2009-11-27 09:49:00)
Hilton Paddington is an excellent suggestion, Hilton Metropole is near-by Paddington as well, with a very nice rooftop bar and restaurant. If you don't mind a short bus/taxi ride from Paddington, Marriott Park Lane offers twin rooms for 149 quid (advance purchase, not refundable), Cumberand offers deluxe doubles for 148 quid and rooms at the Leonard start from 114.

There is a ticket office at London Waterloo, where a station agent will be happy to sell you tickets to Portsmouth. Single fare is about £27 with return fares from £32. If you are sure of dates and times of travel, and if you're travelling before 20 February 2010, you may book and pay for your tickets at www.eastcoast.co.uk - the website will allow you to register with a non-UK address and pay with a non-UK based credit card. Some of the bumf is somewhat exaggerated. "This is a quiet, leafy and safe surbub just yards from the hub of the City centre and London's famous attactions including London Museum..." It's not near the City and, having lived off St. Pancras Way I wouldn't describe it as 'quiet, leafy'. "Direct tube travel from Heathrow airport." Well, sort of... but you wouldn't want to walk...

<"Don't even try."> Gitte, this is fast changing in the UK... there has been a lot of discussion on how much food we waste, and top chefs have now agreed to encourage their customers to take leftovers home. Even Mister Ramsay agrees with the practice. It's something that has started getting common in the last year or so.

I think the answers would depend on which London airport you're flying into, where your accommodation is, and what time of the year it is. Sitting in a park listening to a band might be a nice idea if it's near the end of March but maybe not at the beginning. I also agree that finding something close to your accommodation might be a good idea. Some of the airports have "Yotels" - hotel rooms that you can book for...

DId you pay by credit card? I hope so. What sites like this typically do is take your money, and then *try* and buy the tickets on the grey/black market. If they don't get them, then they will refund you you if they are "reputable" (eg just nota complete scam site, which they don't appear to be), though you of course will still be out of pocket on hotels, airline tickets etc. You dont say if its a home game, but if...

Hi there Take the train from Paddington to Chippenham (on the main line to Bristol), takes well under an hour, from where you are within a short bus ride from Lacock, Biddestone and Castle Combe, three of the loveliest villages anywhere in England. Lacock is often used as a backdrop for historical dramas, the entire village is owned by the National Trust and there is also the...

Good news! Correct me if I'm wrong, but apparently the Gatwick Express tickets are still valid on Sunday the 6th. For instance, tickets booked on 1 May for travel on 15 May are ...

I think - perhaps a leap of faith but I'll go with it - that in most of London you'll find interesting places on view while making your way from point to point, whether walking or sitting in a number 15 bus travelling through the City. London is a big city, and there really isn't one part of the city where you can walk to many sights; you'll need to use the Underground, ...
