Where to go for my honeymoon?
Published (2009-11-29 16:28:00)
It really depends on where you've been before and what sort of things you enjoy. But of those, I'd choose San Francisco as the weather there is still decent in November (average highs in the 60s, and not quite the rainy season, which is December thru early March) and it's a great city. Obviously, the San Francisco forum is filled with people who'd have more specific advice for you. Or, if you want to wait until May and...

Toronto ! What else would you expect in the Toronto forum. :-) Actually if you insist on coming to Canada then I would go for Victoria - likely to be better weather and you have the ocean. Otherwise i would go for Paris, France any day - who cares about the weather.

we're on board for Paris as well. There's no more romantic place on the face of the planet. In fact, we'd skip the Caribbean cruise & just head straight to the City of Light. B et J

You're about my age - I also suggest checking out places like Kensington Market for food/people watching/live music/drinks www.kensington-market.ca/Default.asp?id=1&l=1 and Ossington Ave for great food and drinks. Start at Queen and Ossington and work your way north, bar hopping or have dinner at one of the many great restaurants on Ossington (I recommend Deluxe or Foxley). Theres also a tequila bar on Ossington with live music (...

Beaches Accommodation

Technically The Beach is correct but people say beaches as well. It's caused a bit of debate actually. I like saying the plural beaches as "The Beach" reminds me of the Danny Boyle movie with Leonardo Di Caprio.

Yes, I got my car in Buffalo. And rented the GPS from them also. It would have been nice, since they knew where I was going in Canada, if they had advised me of it either at the desk or when I got the car and he was setting the GPS up.

Fancy new year's eve events
Published (2009-12-06 17:45:00)
Hi Everyone! Having trouble finding something in my own hometown, so figured I'd try Tripadvisor, and hopefully this'll be useful to tourists joining us for New Year's eve in Toronto as well. My hubby and I are looking for a venue with dinner and dancing that: -will have a fair number of people in mid 20's to late 30s range -has a formal dress code...i.e. where a floor-length gown won't look out of place. :) Any...

ok, tried to edit post to say: Nightlife: We like more bar/tavern than dance club. Jazz or live music suggestions welcome! Hockey-themed places, too! Hotel: Near restaurants, cafe, nightlife would be great. Haven't been to Toronto in about 12 years but I recall it being easy to get around and safe to walk? Thanks in advance for your time.

Thanks for your help. I will check out vrbo.com - that will come in handy for other parts of our vacation too. It'll always be The Beaches to me :-)

Invisible Toll Booths

I agree. I was in the Enterprise office in Brampton 2 weeks ago and the notice about the $10 fee was plain as day - right on the counter where you sign the contract. Also included was a statement advising customers not to use their transponder in the rental, and they were not responsible for any extra charges incurred.

Well, I'm not absolutely certain, but I would think that taking the 510 Streetcar to Queen would be quicker, for the mere reason that you'll already be at Spadina Station and you don't have to switch from the subway and then *wait* for the streetcar to take you west along Queen.

Hi Hgponce,
First off CONGRATULATIONS on your up-coming wedding.
Hmmm.... November isn`t when Canada is at her best... lets just say she`s a bit tired and ready for a big nap... November tends to be one of worst months for weather... wet, rainy, cold, and yet not Winter... Winter which by the way can be a really great time for a visit.

I think it is only a 4 or 5 hour flight to Calgary or Vancouver . There you will see real skiing.
Realistically, I would check the blue mountain website to see their prices and photos so that you can decide if it is worth it.

We assume by the wording of your post that your plan would be to take public transit to the airport, then a taxi from there. (the process is well outlined in the FAQ's about Toronto , upper right on the page). The cab ride from the airport is only about 4km, so wouldn't cost too much.
Transit to the airport would involve taking the subway to Kipling Station, and if you're ...

This is amazing, I got a letter from Enterprizse today saying they had paid a toll violation for me and had billed my credit card. The letter just states: Location of Offense: QEW-HWY 403. I've been going nuts since I did stop and pay at one tollbooth just after crossing the border and never saw one again. It was also evening and I just went where the GPS sent me.
And I got ...

Hi,
Of course, the venerable Royal York will be open & serving. Christmas is probably the one day of the year we might consider dining at a big hotel- something very traditional about it all.
We'll plant another seed, though. The Royal York also offers "Turkey To Go", a full turkey dinner with all the accompaniments, which you pick up & bring home. Someone else does all ...
