Hi Callanclan Lots of time for Anaheim and Hollywood. Maybe a bit too much? I still think it's a pity to miss Bryce and Zion on a long trip like this but if I remember correctly you already made you GC reservations. I'm sure you'll have a special reason for driving via Fairfield and Calistoga. Keep an eye on 4th of july, it will be busy then. You also won't see much of Death Valley NP, but it will be extremely hot that...

Your plan sounds like a good one, Tet. Though arriving in Seattle on Day one and getting to the park on day three with a trip to Mt. Rainier sounds like a tough go. John, how are you with jet lag? This has you out the gate running hard with no recovery. It is a two day drive to Yellowstone from Seattle, so putting Mt. Rainier in there (beautiful and quite snowy). You can do the drive in a day and a half, but there's no getting around 800...

Is this your first visit to the States? With two weeks you could fly into Wash DC and make good trip to San Antonio . driving SW across the Blue Ridge, Smokeys, Nashville . Ozarks We truly enjoyed the Charleston , Savannah area, but hardly seems like good thing on way to San Antonio.

Kids & Road Trips
Published (2009-12-23 00:19:00)
Oh, the kids are definitely not bad. That wasn't even under consideration. Some of my favorite students are kids! I think we can all agree the balance and moderation are important. Not many parents want to sing "Itsy Bitsy Spider" and play little kids games with their kids all the way from Niagara Falls to Disneyland. Not too many kids want to place license plate bingo all the way from Disney World to Pier 39. But if...

Kids & Road Trips

Yes. Complicated question. When I was young we made a lot of road trips between California where we lived and the Rocky mountains of Wyoming where I was born and where we had an extended family. Anybody crossed Nevada lately? When I was 10, my dad gave me a map and taught me to read it and showed me how to find the towns and interest spots we would pass. I soon found out where the best hamburgers were and would tell him that it was...

Feb.2010 Road Trip - month long...
Published (2009-12-28 07:52:00)
I know it is quite a few miles....we estimated about 3,000. But we have a whole month to cover those destinations, and considering a Greyhound bus can drive from Porland, OR to Portland, ME in 2 nights, I think we will be ok. But it is a lot of driving, but we have a lot of stops schedulued. Any tips on destinations and must-sees along the way? Route 101, Route 1, best parts of Death Valley, Grand Canyon and Joshua Tree?

I'm impressed that your "West Coast" itinerary actually includes all the states on the west coast. Too many travelers think southern California is the west coast! If you want specific tips on some of your destinations, then I recommend you go to those forums. For example, Frisco_Roadrunner will offer great ideas about visiting Death Valley, but she won't see your post here. Washington comments ~ the road in to Mt...

Re the 90 days for the Visa Waiver program, have a look on US immigration website for the details.
Re buying a car, there have been a few posts on this forum about the subject. There can be issues with registering the car for non-US citizens, but I believe it varies from state to state. I suggest you look at the DMV website for the state you plan to buy in to see what the ...

As far as I know, there are no easy workarounds.
The risk beyond the cost of insurance is the time and trouble to sell the car at the end. That would not be automatic.
Have you contacted the rental agencies to see what long term rates would be? I use Enterprise for short term renting and would not expect to see any bad surprises from them (hidden fees, etc.). ...

How long do you have to do the trip? What specific interests do you have?
The Grand Canyon NP is a must do detour. You can drive in the East entrance from Cameron so you don''t back track. You should stay at least overnight to see the sunset/sunrise, 2 nights if you have the time so you can explore a bit more. http://www.nps.gov/state/az/index.htm

Welcome to the forum.
I know what you mean and only found this:

But no solutions either.
This is the road trips forum so I doubt this is the right forum to put your questions on.
Good luck!

Wow, kudos to you for deciding to do this trip! Neat idea.
The South is enormously varied. You've got the Savannah / Charleston thing going on over on the coast; the New Orleans /etc thing going on down on the gulf; the Deep South in Mississippi , Alabama , and southwestern Tennessee ; and then the Southern Appalachians (my area of expertise) in East Tennessee, western...

A connecting flight to Denver may be a good idea - I will look into this. The cheap flights we arranged were restricted to flying into western coastal cities so we went for Seattle driving down to LA . I still kind of like visiting Glacier - I understand that there is snow/ice on the tops for most of the year - as our kids rarely see the white stuff it is always a highlight. We did ...

When the kids were small we didn't use ipods or dvds, but we do listen to audio books. That's something we all enjoy together and it makes the miles fly by. We have listened to some really great, memorable books.
Now that they are older, they have ipods but we do spend a lot of each day listening to podcasts and music in addition to books that we share together. It is pretty ...

We have a pop-up. I am not familiar with Niagara pop-ups. We have chosen not to travel around with it, because it is not real easy to put up and take down. Largely because it does not have good storage, so much of the stuff has to come out when we stop and back in when we start. I assume that is not a problem for you.
One we had a motor home and once we came into Many ...

This is doable in two weeks, although some of the sites could definitely use more time. Arches is the hard one to fit in. Given your timeframe, I"d skip it.
