Family ski Chamonix, Advice please!

Another possibility is BASSchamonix - they run a private family ski school session which might well suit you. My brother did it with his 3 kids similar in ages to yours and said it was great basschamonix.com/…_2_x_3h_

1st timer in meribel - tips and...

The roads are fine but when you book your car make sure that you specify it should have winter tyres and chains. P.S. also check if your accomodation has parking, since this can be hard to come by. Edited: 11:38 am, today

1st timer in meribel - tips and...

Hi again, Hiring your own car can work out well, especially if there are a few of you and don't mind your luggage on your laps. Don't forget the additional costs of tolls and parking in resort - I don't know how much a week's parking in Meribel is, but in Tignes for example, it's about 90 Euros now. Then of course there's snow-chains and driving on ice. The roads into and around Meribel are not going to be...

Les Arcs/La plagne
Published (2009-12-08 05:15:00)
Hi We are going to Les Arcs for Xmas - actually Peisey/Vallandry. Should we pay the extra for an unlimited ski pass to include La Plagne or is there enough for 5 intermediate skiers in Les Arcs itself?

There is usually plenty of skiing in Les Arcs and the link across to La Plagne isn't that convenient - it goes between the edges of the ski areas so it takes quite a long time to get across to Aime and you need to be very mindful of the times of the last lifts. You used to be able to get a one day extension for the other area to go and have a look and that may be the best option, epending on prices.

Actually you will be very near the Peisey side of the link so easy to get to and get back from. However as railenthusiast says watch your timing on the way back from La Plagne because it is an expensive taxi ride back. A 6 day Peisey/Vallandry - Les Arcs pass costs 209€ otherwise a 6 day pass with one day Paradiski costs 221€. So it will cost you 12€ to go over. You might consider that. Generally it is agreed that the skiing is better...

How many people ? Do you want to be in Chamonix or one of the outlying villages ? Villages are normally cheaper and quieter. For Hotels I would start with www.chamonix.com and go to accommodation.

1st Boarding Holiday - Val Thorens
Published (2009-12-09 09:13:00)
Hi All, We're busy planning our first ever boarding holiday to Val Thorens at the end of Jan. We've done a number of sessions at the snowdome under instruction and solo to get us to a competant level on a board. We've also booked a self catering chalet for the duration of our stay & have also just booked our flights. Now never having been, can anyone advise what we can expect from from our time there? Not sure how it...

Alpe d'Huez Christmas 2009
Published (2009-12-10 08:08:00)
Hi We have booked this chalet for next March. We went to Alpe D'Huez this March and loved it (stayed at Chalet Diane which was fab but quite a way from the village)! Chalet Le Lac Blanc has prob the best location in the resort - very central and right next to the gondola. None of the bars we visited were at all rowdy! We found the Apres ski quite low key but good nonetheless! Can't remember the names of them now tho - sorry....

Hi, I live in meribel. You will enjoy Mottaret and the "3 vallées". There are a lot of free buses (see shedule on www.meribel.net) to connect all the villages to the ski resort. Everybody speek english (there 60% of the english people in Meribel). Marine http://www.restoameribel.com/

I've been to both and on balance, if I was offered a chance to go back to just one, it would be Chamonix - this may be that we had better weather though, so better memories! The Zermatt valley feels very steep and enclosed, while Chamonix is more open and there are good views all round from the balcony paths. Zermatt is also higher than Chamonix, so it doesn't feel as green - somehow ...

How about a one-day car hire? If booked in advance, it would cost quite a bit less than 400 quid.

It depends where you are staying. If you are staying in Chamonix itself it is a nuisance to have to be up in Argentiere in time for ski school. Find out where your accomodation is and then figure out where you think you will spend most of your time skiing, and book lessons close by. I would say the the Brevent-Flegere site is better for intermediates than Argentiere, but if you ...
