Hi there traveller, Here's some suggestions that I collected: 1. Dreamworld dreamworld.com.au/content/drw_2008_home.asp… A great all-rounder theme park. Plenty of scary heart stopping rides and shows for the young kids to the young at heart. Includes Tiger Island, Wiggles World and Nickelodeon Central. About a 1/2 hour drive north west from Broadbeach/ Surfers Paradise along the M1 Freeway. Just follow the signs to Brisbane . Check out...

shazza to help you try and put it on perspective. Nth Queensland (Townsville and Cairns ): For you coming from the UK guaranteed hot weather and great swimming. You will want to swim and will enjoy the temperatures. Many day time temperatures around 26 degrees. When I go to Townsville for holidays now from Brisbane in June/July I take a light jumper for wear in the evening and for the occassional "cool". June/ July just gone...

Thanks, I wasn't too sure how much free coverage there is and I am prpepared to pay, however your 'top tips' probably mean I can stop over in the odd Mc'd's and get what I need. Thanks again. Just about to set off for the airport. Wuhooo.

Cairns is absolutely glorious at that time of year. You can still head out on the reef for snorkelling, ther's not much humidity & it's the dry season with perfect sunny days.

To be fair to the beautiful Southern Qld areas, I think the winter you'll experience on Fraser or the Gold Coast would still feel almost summery to you. With average winter temperatures of 12C to 22C, it's barely nippy. Edited: 7:41 am, today

The Dome at the Marriott has a very good reputation and to my knowledge only have female therapists. A visit there also allows you to use the pool which is really lovely - half indoor/outdoor. Very worthwhile & highly recommend them :)

Hi JanBK For general information on Hamilton Island, have a look at www.hamiltonisland.com.au - they also have some apartments on the website. Also have a look at www.stayz.com.au and www.hamiltonisland.biz - they both also have more privately owned apartments. I went up there in February this year, and whilst I stayed at the Anchorage apartments, friends ...

Straddie is a fabulous place with heaps to do. If you have a 4wd - take it. It is quite spread out, with 3 actual town ships, numerous stunning beaches and other attractions such as fresh water lakes - yet most roads are sealed and it is easy driving. You can drive along some of the beaches if you wish, you just need to get a permit from the Servo when you get there. Take your...

This is a hard question bc you are in peak holiday time. keep looking around bc closer to the time hayman may very well drop in price or release a package. There have been a few of these over the last few weeks from them (subscribe to the mailing list) Hamilton may end up costing about the same $$ but I'll leave reccs for specifics to her. Other options...

This will certainly garner disagreement. IMHO the further you head north the better. I find the whitsundays a bit too cool for swimming at that time of year (even witha wetsuit)

You could use Coachtrans buses Brisbane to Gold Coast at a cost of $32 or the train for $9.80. I find it amazing that one would think that a $10 train fare from the Gold Coast to Brisbane may be termed expensive

There are no butchers in Port Douglas - hasn't been one for years - not since the supermarket chains moved in. There are 2 very good ones in Mossman - Mossman Butchery Company and Sugarland Meats. IGA ( Port ) and Woolworths ( Mossman ) do have meat sections - preorder if you want specific cuts .

Thanks guys, some really useful tips. We land in Sydney Monday next week and we have allowed a week to travel to our daughters in Townsville. Would probably be able to spend weeks driving up your beautiful coast but time will not allow it. Should get to see quite a bit though, really looking forward to leaving the frost and fog behind.
