things to do when weather wet

There are no direct buses from CPO to Algarve Shopping and to be honest it will be a pain in the b*m to try to go there and back by bus. A taxi should cost 8 or 9 Euros and there is a taxi rank at the mall for the return journey. It's about 5 miles. These out of town malls are designed for car access only, as they are anywhere else. PS Sunday 7.20pm local and it is chucking it down and forecast thus for the next week! Edited: 2:22 pm,...

Day at the Airport
Published (2009-12-19 04:06:00)
There isn't anywhere close by to do but there is the village of Santa Cruz which has some nice cafes and a beautiful Church. It may mean a bus or taxi as the road from the airport is directly onto the Rapida, which of course you cannot walk along.

Trains in algarve
Published (2009-12-20 06:06:00)
The last through train from Vila Real Sta. Antonio to Lagos departs at 18:41 and arrive Lagos at 21:49. There is a 20 minute layover in Faro and you may have to change trains there. Note that if you are coming on the ferry from Ayamonte that the station is about 800m from the ferry pier so allow plenty of time. On Friday's only there is a later connection. Note that if you miss this train detailed above it will probably be impossible for...

Thank you Welshtraveller111 I know how good it is to live in a island in special if that island is called " MADEIRA ". It is good because the big criminality stays at far way and other bat things can pass true the ocean, but every medal has a reverse and when you live in a island you feel alwyas a little bit attached and depedent of the import from outside . Any way I will never change my madeiran pacefull living for a...

Minar usually closes from November - April. Casa da Fonte is fantastic, on the steps above the Tunnel. The menu is a la carte so you can order what you like. Ph 00 351 289 51 45 78.

Quinta das Eiras - stilt cottages
Published (2009-12-18 16:02:00)
Thanks - I've been to Funchal before and although it's very nice I'm not really interested in going there regularly this holiday - I just want to go walking the levadas and eat in local restaurants -so thought this base may be good but if Feb is just as wet as here in London I may think again anyway as want to be able to have decent walks without getting washed out Thanks all for your help!

Bankruptcy of Flyglobspam

Not only is it bad news if you live in northern England and Scotland but the even worse news is that I see Thomas Cook have increased their fares from £330 (inc. duty & tax) per person to £400 from Glasgow since I checked on the day Globespan went bust. The only cheaper option is Easyjet but they only fly to Madeira from Bristol and I think Stansted & Gatwick. Edited: 12:57 pm, yesterday

Espinho is only half an hour or so by train from Porto . It's a while since I have been there but it did seem to be a favourite with day trippers. It has a very nice wide beach but I wasn't there at night to judge what goes on later..
Gaia (Vila Nova de Gaia) is directly across the river from Porto and doesn't have a beach. There are beaches on that side of the river a bit ...

Lovely photographs and very informative review. We are staying at the Melia Mare in January for a week and we're pleased that the food is so good as we have booked on a half board basis. We intend to eat out a couple of nights and most lunchtimes. Will certainly buy a two day pass as it seems good value. This will be out first visit to Madeira and I'm trying my best not to start ...

The Eastern Algarve is the least affected by tourism and more traditional than other coastal areas. Try Vila Real de Santa Antonio or Olhaõ for the most authentic, followed by Monte Gordo and Tavira.
On the West Coast, Sagres which is the Western most tip of Europe still retains old world charm. Portimaõ is very built up and the second biggest city after Faro but is very ...

Hi there!
Both have good location, near Marques de Pombal Square and Av. Liberdade.
The Marques de Pombal is a good 4 Star hotel and the Eurostars not really a 5 star hotel, more like a 4 superior, but its a good hotel.
If the price is important, book the Eurostars, but if the diference isn't much, I'd stay at the Marques de Pombal, as it's located right in ...

I was very nearly ready to book with Globespan, their prices were coming down daily (about £125 return) and were about £120 cheaper than ThomsonFly. Ended up having to book with ThomsonFly for £660 return for me & girlfriend, their prices went up by about £80 per person yesterday evening!! It's scandalous how the airlines cash-in on the misfortunes of others!!
I liked ...

so, to sum up, for cycling outside of the city Vila Franca de Xira and Cascais seem to be recommendable. I've heard that inside of Lisbon people go cycling in the expo area, is that true? Are there maybe any other parks that are suitable?

Because of their location you will definately need a car. Santa de Serra is high up in the hills and in February is likely to be very chilly and possibly wet as Feb is historically the wettest time of year
If you 'Google' Quinta das Eiras Madeira, there are lots of sites with ...

If you mean Easter Sunday, 4th April, this is a religious holiday (the Portuguese do still observe religious holidays as such) so the roads will be very quiet.
Other than Lisbon , to be honest there isn't much between Cascais and Evora and the whole journey should not take you no more than 2 hours at the very most.
Sorry no information I can find about bullfights ...

At present there are only two airlines operating between Lisbon and Brussels .
TAP Air Portugal- http://www.flytap.com/Portugal/pt/Homepage
Brussels Airlines - http://www.brusselsairlines.com/com/
You may be lucky and be able to book a reasonably priced flight with either of the two given the time of year you wish to travel.
However, the ...
