It is usually populated by yuppies coming from work but on New Year's Eve it could be a completely different crowd... It is a big place and very nice in a nice part of town... looks like they are having entertainment. It all depends on what you are looking for Veluur... It is not a wild throw the food on the floor type place. I would imagine the crowd would be pretty calm and well behaved.

If ;you are able it's about 12 blocks and one street over - I walked it from Grand Central and I've got two bad knees - if the weather is OK - shanks mare all the way. BTW - the hotel is great - my wife actually mentioned that we should stay there on our annual MLK weekend visit. Poppa

The reviews here on TA for the Chelsea International Hostel have fallen off in the past year or so, kmcire so I'm glad to hear that you were happy with it -- would you consider posting a formal review of it on this page? tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g60763-d264986-… Thanks too for the feedback on Le Rivage (it used to be at least reliable and fairly-priced even if not remarkable). Isn't it fun that you had 3 bonuses most visitors...

Actually, the torch has been closed since 1916 - because of an act of sabotage - according to the website. It says that a lot of people think they went to the torch when they really went to the crown. I have to say, I don't know if I could take that hike up - the FAQs say the statue is the equivalent of a 22 story building - and while the crown obviously doesn't go up the full height - that's a long way up - and the 20 degrees...

The Trade Center Site itself is a construction zone and you are not allowed in. You can see the new Freedom Tower rising. If you want a good view of the actual site, you have to take one of the Sidewalk Bridges to the North and South of the site. You can see the site from the second floor window in the World Financial Center. Rather than seeing the actual site, visit St. Paul's Chapel where the service volunteers rested. You can also...

I know exactly what you mean. When people here started recommending LIC as a place to stay I rejected that idea because it is not the best area In my opinion,,, However the week you picked is an expensive week and a busy week so the Priceline quotes might be limited... Just remember if you spend a lot of time in your hotel room you are not really experiencing New York city so the ...

You'll get better responses if you post your question in the New York City forum. This is the forum for New York State.

The Egg, the Empire State Plaza and the Times Union Center are all next to one another. Hotels in downtown Albany that easily service any of them include 74 State, www.74state.com: The Hampton Inn, www.hamptonsuitesalbany.com, the Crowne Plaza; Holiday Inn Express on Broadway. I cannot personally say anything about any of them since I have not stayed in them. The Crowne Plaza seems to ...

First, you're in the wrong forum. This is the forum for New York State: you want the forum for New York City .
Second: seriously? Yes, New York is expensive. If you don't know what there is to see and do in New York, why are you coming? I'm not saying these things to be rude, but it's going to be very hard to give you good suggestions if you don't have any idea where ...

First, you'll get better responses if you post your question in the New York City forum.
Second, why Staten Island? Not that there's anything wrong with Staten Island, but if we understand why you're stayting there, we can give you better options. (Are you visiting family on the Island? Do you think it'll be cheaper/more convenient than staying in Manhattan? etc.)...

The best place to watch the ball drop is in front of your TV set. Just mobs of people and no toilets--and probably freezing cold as well.

HI, KIM -- let me recommend the FIND AVAILABLE HOTELS feature here on TripAdvisor. It's fast; you'll get rates from a variety of sources; you can narrow the results by price and geographical location & then have quick access to the TA reviews and pic posted by past guests. It's on the "home page" for every locale's hotels section on TA, but here's the link to the NYC page for your ...

I would not take a taxi. I would instead get a one day Fun Pass metrocard for you, and the 8-year-old is probably small enough to duck under the turnstile with no problem. Take the subway or bus from place to place. Begin by walking across 32nd Street from Penn Station to Greeley Square/Sixth Avenue/Broadway. Take the uptown N, R or W to Fifth Avenue. Walk down Fifth past FAO Schwartz ...

I never liked the term either. And ground zero's real definition is the center of a nuclear explosion, so it's not really even a correct term. If people want to say that, fine, but I always call it the World Trade Center or former WTC site. Something like that.
I like that the E Train never changed their signs.

You are a great brother but I'd say NO to the hotel. It's in a great location but the rooms there are very small. I think it might be better to get a 1 bedroom suite. What about the Eastgate Tower or Radio City apartments?

I honestly didn't think this was a big problem on the NYC subway. I mean, I've heard stories about the Tokyo and Korean subways being a regular 'free for all' but never really heard anyone mention it happening on the NYC subway. Sure I imagine that in a city as large as NYC there must be an occasional psychotic flasher, but I guess I just always presumed that NYC women are too tough ...

There are thousands of bars and restaurants in the city. You have to be more specific as to budget , taste cuisine, vibe and any other details that might help people answer that part of your question. We use Yelp for restaurants and bars.

That would really depend on what is the limit of "purchases" ( monetary value) you can take back to your country. If you think you are exceeding that amount - then yes remove the tags. Infact, to be on the safe side you might want to remove it regardless.

Just wander and stop when it strikes your fancy - in January there are fewer tourists and places in the Village do not necessarily get booked - like some of the most popular restaurants.
So just get out your list and stroll around until you feel like settling in a certain place.

The Affinia hotel chain has a couple of properties that can accommodate six in a room. I'm not sure if it will be within your budget for your exact dates in May but you can check availability here:
