Storm in Cozumel today
Published (2009-11-25 21:45:00)
I talked to Memo from Aldora and he alluded to something that sounds like this but I did not understand what happened. I noticed rainy type conditions on the Scuba Club webcam mid morning. Was it a freak squall? Unusual high winds? High seas (waves)? Most dive sites are swimmable if forced to but I would certainly want a life jacket/BC to minimize fatigue. Can I assume that everyone survived the event?

PDLC question
Published (2009-11-25 12:18:00)
N4S - All of my Puerto Marqués comments are for TheFriendlyGiant (page one of this thread), who's staying at the Mayan & vacationing on a tight budget. Nothing to do with the cruise terminal; that's someone else altogether. Obviously PDLC 'from the cruise terminal' is the better choice of the two places; that's a no-brainer.

Taking good to barter in Cancun

Cancun is MUCH MUCH different than cuba. That would just insult them I think so just take some pesos or US money.

I think I am actually in the middle on this topic, after reading this blog. 'The Scuba Police' undercurrent.org/blog/… That gives food for thought from the other end of the spectrum! :) "I'm cold, so everybody put on a sweater." LOL Edited: 11:04 pm, yesterday

want to learn to scuba dive need...

Pauline and Bellasogno - excellent posts. I know several very experienced divers and all of them are vehemently against the whole idea of these quickie "learn to dive in 5 minutes" sort of things that people take on vacation. An exploratory dunk in the pool with all the equipment is one thing but going out into open water without adequate training is a tragedy looking for a place to happen. As noted by several others, get...

Tour company opinions

www.puertovallartatours.net is a ticket re-seller, not a true tour company. For example to go whale watching, you can go direct to the tour companies that do that, such as http://ecotoursvallarta.com/ and http://www.vallartawhales.com/ Edited: 8:36 pm, November 24, 2009

PDLC question
Published (2009-11-25 21:19:00)
I probably would not have made it over to PM if it not for my fishing trip with Hank. I have to say on the day I went the area looked rather clean and I went there expecting the worse so perhaps that made it easier to deal with. . I will say Steve is right more then 3 seconds in those bathrooms is insane but Purell put me at ease. The captain of our craft (lol) also owned the beachfront restaurant/shack Mar Y Cielo and they served up a feast...

Dec 7th TA Meet up - prelim count
Published (2009-11-24 11:59:00)
Sounds good to me. The clincher might be if they require a prepayment. Sounded at first that they wanted a prepayment for 15 people. If that is it, then it will be difficult to commit. If we can just go and pay as we get there, it's great.

Unfortunately life is full of accidents - they happen in all aspects of our life. And so the 4 year old getting out of the kids club was an accident. However, when you consider all the wonderful positive review of the resort and the kids club, the less than handful of negative reviews of the kids club are a natural in my opinion. Yes we can all say that it is unacceptable, ...

I am not happy with these changes as I paid for 14 days and now am getting 13. I have written to the travel agent/tour operator and carrier expressing my complaints. Will see if I hear anything back (most likely not) and will post here if so. I do understand that flights sometimes have to be changed but some form of compensation is in order when we are losing what we paid for.

Did the OP notice that although the review in question was posted Oct 16, if they looked at the bottom of the review, the incident happened in April 2009. It was 6 months old when it was put in the review section and is now 7 months old when the OP brought it up. I haven't seen any other posts or reviews besides that one so it seems like an isolated incident and a miscommunication...

I certainly wouldn't worry much about the US warning hype that applies much more to border towns. But might worry if you have never driven in Mexico especially the Vallarta area after dark. The rules of the road are a bit different than what most of us who live NOTB are used to, and I don't think I'd want to learn the differences after dark. i.e. on some highways you pull on...

Hey knighter - if you parsed that much out of the messages you also should have noted the part about how most of the busing and resort-bundling was happening in the LOW season...which is just ending. If the resort didn't divulge that to you, then you should pick that bone with them. The OP specified they didn't like kids or crowds, so he got factual information of ...

Keep in mind even with the "keyless" safes the managment has a master code that allows them to get in if a guest forgets the code that he or she sets. (I know this from first hand experience) at a RIU in Playa Del Carmen ...They were able to send a manager and security to open it.... so that system is not fail-safe (ha) either.

We love to stay at the Grand Palladium but I really wanted to take my daughter for a girls get away for her birthday last month and we stayed at the IB Tucan/Quetzal. We were on a very tight budget!!!! It is a 5 minute cab ride to Playa and there is even a little plaza that you can walk too. We had a room with a slight ocean view. I thought the food was good ...

Friendly Giant, You can rent wave runners in may places in Acapulco . Although a trip to PDLC, is worth it. Also, February is the month that many TA members go too. We plan a few meetings/events. Keep an eye out for future event postings, if you wish to join us.
