There is a three day transportation pass for Rome, but it doesn't cover the trip to Fiumicino, which isn't in Rome. You can get daily passes (4 euros) or three day passes (11 euros). Single tickets are 1 euro. If you'll be visiting several museum or archeological site in Rome (excluding the Vatican, which isn't part of Rome), you might want to get the Roma Pass for 23 euros, which has two free entrances, discounts on...

It will cost $1000-1200 if you go June-August. If you go in the winter Nov-March it can cost $600-800. If you stay near Termini (which is not exactly near the sights, 1-2 miles from most sights) and take public transport you can get by at 80-100 euro ($120-$150 per night). A Rome Metro or bus ticket is 1 euro; Figure maybe 5 euros per day. I usually stay in Apt in Rome for 80-90 euro per night. here is a sample budget fro 2 people for 13...

Take a medium weight coat, gloves, hat and scarf. I would also take an umbrella. Since you are from the D.C. area you are used to the cold. You can check wunderground.com for historical information about the weather during that time of year but you can usually expect mild days (35-65) and cool evenings (35-40). It hardly ever snows so you don't have to worry about that. It can be windy which is why I suggest the hat and scarf. Donna

Couldn't be much simpler! The Advanced search facility on www.flickr.com lets you select a search term plus a "taken on" date range - so you can see the pictures other people were taking (do watch out for any oddities - scans etc etc - which may be deceptively incorrect!) Peter

Fiumicino airport to Trastevere
Published (2009-11-28 11:17:00)
From Fiumicino to Trastevere there is a direct train called FR1 (destination, Orte or Fara Sabina: NOT the other train to Termini) that starts every 15 minutes and costs 5.50 euros. Then to Piazza Santa Maria in Trastevere I agree that taking the tram 8 is better. From Fiumicino to the station San Pietro (very close to the Starhotel) you have to get off in Trastevere and change train. If you buy at the airport a ticket to San Pietro, it will...

A real treat if you can swing it and have an interest is to see about renting a bike and riding it along the Appian Way on a Sunday - there is so much history along that road and biking it is a nice way to experience it.

1 day car rental out of Rome?
Published (2009-11-29 04:46:00)
Driving in and out of Rome is something of a nightmare: I have done it once and will never do it again. Once you are beyond the GRA (the autostrada ring road), driving is quite easy. Put it this way: in September, we spent a day visiting Tivoli and we did the trip by bus.

1 day car rental out of Rome?
Published (2009-11-29 11:49:00)
we picked up a car at Termini and spent a day visiting the Etruscan tombs in Tarquinia and Cervetari and that area and came back to Rome via the coast -- it was not big deal yeah having a car in Rome is a drag but simply driving in and out not so much. and if you are nervous about it, you can pick up a car at the airport and just go directly to the ring road and out -- the airport is quite easily navigated for rental car return

I don't live in Rome, but I take public transport a lot when I am there. Mon-Fri, it does not seem predictable when the cars will be the most crowded.
In Dec 2006 I went with a friend to Rome. We arrived at 10 am at FCO and could not check into our apt till 1 pm. We took the Leonardo to termini and checked our luggage. We walked around and took the Metro to some sights unitl ...

Hi Jess, have a look at San Silvestro in Capite, it's in the square of the same name, where there is a bus terminus and not too far from Spanish Steps. Mass in English at 17:30 on Sunday evening.

The simplest way is the bus 64 (which you'll have to take often to go to the centre) to the stop Largo Argentina. From there you can walk some minutes to Piazza Sant'Ignazio.

If this person has asked a question, I suppose she doesn't know really what to do. She, herself, wonders if she is too ambicious. She doesn't tell explicitly her priority is the Sixtine Chapel: she has made a list, probably a list of the things she has already heard - and probably she has heard mainly about them because most people went / go to Rome seeing just them. Instead, she tells ...

You are looking for low-rent accommodation in the high-rent area of Rome. If you want €80 rooms, they are near Termini.

Your choices are quite a hike from the sights and the charm of the historic center. Use google map's "street view" and explore the areas and compare them to the historic area, say, around the Pantheon and Piazza Navona.
If this is a first trip to Rome I think you'd be better off in a more central location, say, within a half mile or so radius of the Pantheon.
Good ...

December 8 is a national holiday, but with the exception of the Vatican Museums, none of the major museums or archeological sites is closed. Many shops do close. And you might want to avoid the Spanish Steps area in the afternoon; the pope goes there at 4 pm to pay homage to the Immacolata, and it tends to snarl traffic in the area.
The other major point of interest in the ...

Really as anywhere a good guide book is the first priority. from this you can determine what is ofinterest to you, there are so many, but I like the "Time out" they are full of useful all round information, and also it has a quite detailed map in it , which is compact.
Both the Insight flexi-map and the Rough Guide map's are good, and weather proof which is an advantage,

The simplest way to buy train tickets is doing it at the stations. Vending machines are easy to use (also in English; just remember to write always "Roma" and "Firenze" in Italian) and never very crowded.
If you want to save some money, the best way is not to take the speed but highly expensive trains AV (Frecciarossa). From Rome to Florence there are Intercity trains which cost ...

From the airport, take the FM1 local train (not Leonardo Express), and get off at Trastavere. From there, it is about 2 km to Piazza Santa Maria, so you will probably want to take the 8 tram along Viale di Trastavere.
