Possible but rather tiring. I would do it from Tel Aviv as you don't have enough time as it is in jerusalem.

Unless you are renting a large vehicle you can usually drive 20-25 km and still have the tank register full. --just pay attention to the vehicle's gauge on earlier fill-ups. I find that the rentals NEVER are really full when you get them. I always get a lot less kilometers between the "full" and when it moves--the first time I fill up a vehicle, compared to subsequent times.

Easter this year is going to be a huge BALAGAN!!!! You cannot get even near the Church of the Holy Sepulcher without a passing permit. In a matter of fact the whole entrance to the old city is blocked from the New Gate and Jaffa Gate. CIC indeed is the best place to check about the posibilities: http://198.62.75.1/www1/ofm/cic/CICmainin.htm

A few other comments: • I second the recommendation of IBike, which I thought was charming. I, too, thought that the accommodations at Desert Lodge were too rustic, and I stay in mid-class, not fancy, hotels in Israel . This was too basic for me. It was a great place to eat and have wine. • If you take the train, pay the extra NIS 5 for a reserved seat, called a "makom shamur." You don't get in a specific seat, but...

Jumping in here :). The apartment that is available for rent is not the one in the link and, from the photos, is less attractive and not a penthouse. My recommendation for renting is to take a very critical eye to the furnishings and level of renovation and how recently it seems to have been done. That indicates a level of financial investment in the apartment and I think is a clue that the rest of the apartment and its maintenance will be to...

Hi motibt, If it's something we can do with kids (8-18), then I would be interested to hear more. Otherwise, I'll have to bow out this year. Many thanks anyway, Debi

thanks dw for your input, and for taking the time to look at the photos, and send me addl links, ideas ~ so helpful. I definitely agree, a good night's rest is key to feeling energized and not cranky...this apt had double beds in bedrooms, since we are a three generation family, (not couples) this sounded less than comfortable. Have sent requests for many apts. Have not heard back from others yet. May be too late to find one?

Gas near the airport
Published (2009-11-30 07:05:00)
You could fill up at Sha'ar Hagai and add another 2 liters after the pump automatically cuts off if you are worried. The access to this station is easy and directly from Highway 1. Then you could take the Airport exit from Hwy 1 directly into the airport. This is probably the less complicated solution. I once filled up a rental car less than a kilometer from the car return and was charged for one-third of a liter of gas !!!! (in Canada -...

We just used rent-a-guide for Masada and the Dead sea business class which is about 100 per person. The van can only fit 16 people and that would be the max. In our group we had about 11 people.

I will try to help.
1. I don't think that there is Sherut to Tel aviv. There used to be a Sherut service service to the hotels area in Tel Aviv but it is not working anymore and according to the airport web site it is not going to work in near future. So check about this. For 7 people I would make reservation to a big taxi I'm sure your guide can help you with that.

The Church of the Holy Sepulchre is more complicated, as it is not controlled by a single church denomination or group. More so because in 2010 Orthodox Easter and Roman Catholic/Protestant Easter are on the same day. I know in the recent past access has been highly ...

I'm happy to try to help with Tel Aviv apartments, not based on personal experience, but having looked at a lot of websites :-).
What do you consider walking distance to the beach? I've always liked the look of these apartments (and the company has grown from 2 places from when I first bookmarked them, which I think is a good sign) but may be a bit further than your ideal....

How about a cocktail in the bar? I think that would have more atmosphere -- not that I've ever stayed there! But still, can't you just picture Paul Newman and Eva Marie Saint, both lookng impossibly gorgeous, doing exactly that? :-) Better yet, is there a terrace to have a drink on, overlooking the Old City?

Hi gma27,
Welcome to the Israel forum!
Many people ask questions similar to yours, although most are not looking for guides for the whole visit. In fact, you really don't need a guide for the whole visit - there are lots of cheap or free guided tours, and there are also places for which a guide is superfluous (e.g. Eilat). You certainly don't need a driver in Tel Aviv or ...

I am afraid that some of this information is not correct.
Since 2007 the Israeli driving license had gone through modification to adjust it to the European standart and true it is not like in the States.
The Israeli driving license has levels. each one is to either different kind of vehical or differnt weight or different no of people.
Not as the information given here it...
