Delta adding flights in 2010

More good news for those coming to Hawaii next spring or summer. Here's a link to an article about Delta's adding flights in March and next summer: …bizjournals.com/pacific/…

Fines for wrecking coral...
Published (2009-11-28 16:40:00)
Yeah, nickie, another one!! Looks like it isn't going to get much better!! Oh, well, happens to us all sooner or later. Where there is one snorkel boat, you will find 10 more that could go into business. Maybe if they did confiscate the boats the companies would be more cautious. I would rather protect the coral than the companies!!

Whale watching Dec 12 - Dec 16

I'll give you my standard rec...do a sunset cruise! Drinks, pupu's, great boat ride, Maui sunset and MAYBE whales. If you don't see them this early in the season you will still have had a memorable adventure on the water. If you can swing it the helio tour is amazing!

Mars -- I may have mentioned this before -- but read the local papers while you are in Hawaii. Not only are they fun to read (for a tourist like me!) but they will have the store ads with hours and sometimes coupons.

The eternal Hawaii Vs Caribbean...
Published (2009-11-28 14:52:00)
It's faster and cheaper for many mainlanders to get to the Caribbean . That's certainly true for the Eastern seaboard and Midwestern parts of the US and Canada. More cruises go there too. Staffing would probably be cheaper for hotels using local populations, so I'd think hotels would be cheaper too. (I'm guessing.)

scott, i'm curious... do you mean you particularly like the Dole Plantation Tour? and think it's worth doing? or that Dole as a company are good guys and a positive part of the island? or both :) thanks, suze

Hotel Upgrades
Published (2009-11-28 08:56:00)
I suspect over half all visitors to Hawaii are celebrating a birthday, anniversary, honeymoon. Add in the people with special circumstances (cancer survivors) and military and the fraction grows...no way we could ALL get upgrades for free even nif they wanted to give them. I suspect if you book via a third party like Priceline or hotels.com etc. your chances will be lower than if you book direct. (Given two equally...

Easywin, sorry you have the flu. Yes the flight is long. We fly into Dallas 1 hr then have a 4 hour layover before we start the 8 hour fligjt. I can understand why some folks don't like/enjoy it. For us it's worth every minute (over 20 trips)
)Hope you get ok by the time you head to Ca...but watch out on the plane. My dear friend flew back from Calif thinking she had a cold...nope ...

I can get 11 nights (5 nights at Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel) and (6 nights at Aston Poipu Kai) with Airfare from San Francisco and an inter-island transfer for just under $3,100 (Costco Travel). I think that's a good deal. The Waikiki Beach Hotel is a partial ocean view room and Aston Poipi Kai is a garden view. How is Aston Poipi Kai? Do you think this is a good deal? The trip (...

Anyone able to please help? I have found some pictures of the RH rooms, and they all look lovely.
Has anyone stayed in the Ocean Front Tower rooms at the RH?? If so, do they have good views of Diamond head?
Thanks in advance

There is *some* bus service on Maui . Most visitors rent a car for the duration of their stay. The cost of a taxi or shuttle from the Kahului airport to Kihei and back will run you more than two days of car rental.
What is the name of the condo complex so we can comment. There are some in Kihei that would be walking distance to grocery stores. Those could be more of a ...

On Oahu? The crab macadamia nut wontons at Dukes (and perhaps Hula Grill, too!). Ask for the garlic chili oil. Actually, it may only be Hula Grill with the garlic chili oil - like on Maui . I also love their fish tacos - outdoors at Duke's Barefoot Bar. And as really stupid as it sounds, I loved the spaghetti at House Without a Key. I think it is a specialty of theirs. I'm looking ...

Wholeheartedly agree with SW on recommending the Feast at Lele! If you are 'foodies' I think you will really enjoy this. It is a smaller venue, with waitstaff serving you at your own table. Nothing at all like the huge buffet style luau's where you get to eat with a couple of dozen "new friends." FAL is more of a Polynesian Review that weaves the courses of your meal with the different ...

Aloha,
Congrats on the upcoming flight from the nest!
It would be best for you togo to the tabs on the left and start doing some reading there. It will give you an idea of prices, things to do, places to eat, etc. Summer is very popular-and therefore usually pricier--so you'll need to do some digging.
None of the hotels are going to allow five people to stay ...

heatherandjohn, whatever travel guide you prefer ... whether it be the Revealed series, Fodors, Frommers, etc. ... I would replace it after 4 years if you want to be current on restaurants, hotels, activities, that kind of thing. I spend all that money on a trip, so I feel what's another $15 bucks or so on a new travel guide! ;-)

If they like Wailea , want a large unit in a well-amenitied project, hotel services (not condo), and don't mind being off the water, have them look at the Hotel Wailea, which used to be called the Diamond Wailea Resort.
It was developed as a very upscale Japanese vacation club, only 72 units on 14 landscaped acres with wonderful views.

Maybe it's having their pictures taken so often or all the love that people show when they see them. Or maybe the populated islands are safer for them in some other way...fewer sharks? Maybe I could get a government grant to study this?

If you'll be in Honolulu right immediately around Christmas, it will be crowded just because there are a lot of people there. There can be good post-Christmas bargains in January, and I'm not sure how the prices will compare to Canada, but sometimes they're higher than on the Mainland.

Much easier to choose Hawaii and Maui in particular when we are a 5-1/2 hour flight away from paradise. Doesn't even matter how fancy the accommodations are as long as you are safe walking around and driving around.
