Saffron Walden in Essex - Train from Liverpool St to Audley End on the line to Cambridge. Very well preserved mediaeval market town with lots of fine timbered houses and pargeting (decorative plasterwork), unique Elizabethan turf maze, ruined castle, Jacobean stately home at Audley End itself

Is it actually Christmas Day you will be there as you may find lots of the attractions are closed.I answered a posting the other day after looking each attraction up on the web and was quite shocked to find some where shut for 2-3 days.

low cost bed & breakfast

... and also, whats your definition of "low priced" ? I've stayed in a couple of central hotels there generally at around £100/room/night that I'd recommend, and also one B&B maybe 15 minutes walk to the center, at about £60 for a couple. Do any of those count as low priced? Edited: 5:17 am, today

Not sure how old the team is...Under 18's will stuggle with a 'challenge 21' rule in operation in most bars.. How old are they?

Hi again For the sights I've mentioned, and assuming you don't want to spend all day every day behind the wheel, I would allow four full days for Cornwall and more if you can spare them. Bath is certainly great ( it's just 20 miles from where I live) but it's just a 90 min run from London and if your real intention is to explore Cornwall, then I'd be inclined to get there without an overnight stopover and make the...

Get to/from birmingham from EMA?

The best and probably the quickest way is to have a car and driver waiting for you when you leave East Mids terminal. Is that what you were looking for? Or were thinking more about public transport? Off the top of my head you could get a train from East Midlands Parkway Station (close to the airport) to Derby and then change for Birmingham . It takes about an hour and a quarter including the waiting time at Derby.

In the Greek language, there are many sayings that contain a foreign country, or foreign people.
When it's too cold they say "it feels like Siberia". When someone hears about an armed robbery on the telly they say "we became Texas" and when someone complaints about someone else being rude and unhelpful, another someone will reply "where do you think you are? London?".

IOW is not like Blackpool , my wife and I would not pick Blackpool for a week, yet if we were not to go abroad we would quite happily pick the IOW. I do not regard the Island as run down. Some of the Hotel and guest houses could do with a refubishment but you get what you pay for in most cases.
There are some high class hotels to stay in but these do not come cheap. There are also...

Why not take the train? It takes 45mins and costs about £7. Reading to maidenhead then change at Maidenhead for marlow.
Getting in and out of Reading by car can take a long time if it's at rush hour, so the taxi fare will vary a lot depending on the time of day.

I've eaten in both Pinocchio's and the Last Wine Bar many times. Both are decent, the Last Wine Bar is certainly a better option but probably more pricey. Pinocchios used to be really good but I haven't experienced anything like that in there recently but I do like the location which is near some excellent city centre pubs.
