Hello again :-) I could remember you saying you were going back again, I think there must be something that keeps drawing you back as you said the last time that it was going to be your last time there LOL!!!! Agree with you when you say that if you do your homework beforehand you will have a great time.

Nile cruise , 2 questions.
Published (2009-12-02 20:22:00)
No problem Jim, My answer was however, Luxor orientated, this being the Luxor forum and all, LoL. But while we're throwing in Aswan answers, I suppose we'd better add that it gets dark at roughly the same time in Aswan, but isn't quite as cold at night at this time of year (but almost, LoL).

Thank you EgyptianGoddess for your reply. Since I am used of attending parties during this time of the year, I am thinking of holding a private party for some of my habibi's close friends. Can't wait. Cheerio! Edited: 6:00 am, today

Aswan flight to Abu Simbel
Published (2009-11-30 03:59:00)
Yess! Am from namma bengaluru too! Thanks for the feedback. But I think my Abu Simbel night stay is off :-( I had only one day before the cruise in my hands, and I wanted the day to be spent at Aswan, evening fly to Abu Simbel, stay for the LS show & sunrise next morning and return by noon to Aswan for 3N cruise. unfortunately there are only 2 EgyptAir flights daily from Aswan, both in the morning, so there goes my delicate plans!...

At this time of year it will be getting dark at about 4-30ish or so and as soon as the sun dips behind the mountains the temperature will drop about 10-15 degrees (F) in what seems like a matter of minutes.
You cannot take cameras into any of the museums or video cameras into the Kings Valley.
No cameras or pictures are allowed in any of the tombs or at any 'military' sites (...

As you already appreciate, as a first timer, you will no doubt find whichever tombs you visit, fascinating.
It really depends on your level of interest in the subject as to how much you may want to fine tune your choice down to specific tombs.
The Valley of the Kings was used as a Pharoanic burial place over a 500 year or so period that covered the 18th, 19th and 20th ...

If you switch to satellite view on either of the maps available at these links, you will see a small Cessna Seaplane moored nearby.

Hi boringFS,
There are no areas of shade at all I'm afraid and it all looks pretty much finished.
The westbank ferry dock area pics were taken from the rooftop resturant of the Nile Valley hotel, which at the moment stands solitary, as all buildings around it and the camel stables have been cleared.
The ' new' buildings across the road include rows of glass fronted ...

I really enjoyed your report. It is a long, and expensive haul to Egypt from [down under] but for us, the month we spent in Egypt in 2007 was the mosy memorable trip north of the equator that we have ever taken to date, and plan on spending another month in Egypt in 2011. Your mention of your meal at Sofra bought back great memories. We spent an enjoyable evening there with Janet and ...

Take English pounds, so much easier, you can change money at the airport at the same time as getting your visa. All hotels have safes to store your valuables.

Agree don't tip for a buffet.
One point Nefertari made about not tipping for bad food - I don't agree with this. Bad service, sure, don't tip. But it is not the waiting staff's fault if the food is bad, or takes a long time to come out of the kitchen. As long as the wait staff are friendly and efficient and helpful, and deal with your complaints well, they should get a tip. ...

ohhh.. first time - you will love it. Cant advising on diving, but we loved the trip we did wth the Rhiana dive group, it was snorkelling and a half day trip from the Rhiana, around £10 each and worth every penny!! We went out on a glass bottom boat for around 20 mins and then the guide swam round the house reefs for around and hour with us, and we saw the most amazing fish... huge ...
