I looked for the same, Mark but didnt see anything. I dont believe their is any tv coverage but thought someone might at least have a site to follow it on the internet. I have asked several locals who are involved in running the Ironman and they dont seem to know either. Hope someone has some information.

Andrea, according to that post I read on the Cuba forum, yes...say MSP to CUN then on to Cuba - no problemo. Don't even have to stay overnight or anything in Cancun ...again, according to this DE on the Cuba forum.

Island Holidays- scammers

Since you rescheduled your dolphin swim, did you ever consider rescheduling your promised attendance at a time share presentation? If time share sales weren't such scams, they couldn't afford to offer several hundred dollars compensation to say NO to high pressure sales tactics. Since you didn't live up to your end of the agreement, they had every right to charge you full price. Sort of like buy one product get the other one...

Yes, they are available at Aqua Safari downtown - waterfront between Calles 5 & 7. There are some large stores (Cinco Soles, for example) that stock them but proceeds do not go to the Red Cross -- the money is split between the store's profit and 5 charities. Aqua Safari gives 100% of the $10 to the Red Cross.

I've looked all over ESPN and the Ironman site. I haven't seen any mention of a broadcast. Anyone know if it is broadcast on TV or the internet?

Pesos all the way.
If you have US dollars, you're at the mercy of the vendors accepting them when it comes to exchange rate. Some vendors, taxi drivers in particular, are only giving 10 pesos to the US dollar (the bank rate is closer to 13). Other vendors are actually giving very good rates but you won't know which is which until you get there and personally, being a ...

I am not familiar with it since its on the dock but you can be sure most anything there will be a rip off with the high rent charged by Carnival.

Yattica: I am indeed sorry you got had, it's a shame when things like this happen.
I do want to point out that taking advantage of unsuspecting tourists is by no means limited to Mexico, pretty much anywhere tourists go, there are people trying to take advantage of them. I also want to add that you share some of the blame for having this happen to you, doing business with a person...

I've only seen them out on the tours, they go bumper to bumper, not thrilling. A Jeep or Geo Tracker is probably the best you can do. But a dolphin on a moped might be fun.

If it's being sole by a cruise line, it's almost certainly wildly overpriced.
Do some research on your own and see what you could book a similar excursion for without going through Carnival, then you can make your own choice.

It should be apparent that I started this specific thread with the sole intention of communicating with a guy I met in Cozumel recently. Unfortunately, we didn't exchange emails so this is my only way to contact him. He identified himself to me upon introduction as a "TripAdvisor lurker." That explains the title of my thread.
I told this person that ...

Ohhhhh, just looked at the picts and you guys were having a great time and with your hottie wives. I want ya'll to go meet us in April and have a good time. By my definition of upscale you won't find one right on the beach, but there are some in town. Alberto's is OK, you sit at tables in the sand right next to the water and they serve over priced, but good lobster. Nice ambiance though.

I haven't been to Cuba, but John, " Carden" has and he just returned from El Coz and he can give you that answer. He will be posting soon. I do stay at El Coz and have no problem with the food, but as I said, can't compare with Cuba, obviously, since I'm from the US.

Hotel Meson is a shame. I have thought how nice it would be to have a hotel room right on the square and watch the sites go by. Just think of some towns in the US that have boarded up buildings in town due to the economy, hope Coz doesn't end up looking that way....
