Altitude while Pregnant
Published (2009-12-16 20:27:00)
Lake Titicaca is really high, well over 12,000 feet. Bogota is little less than 9,000 feet so that's enough of a difference that I'm sure you'll be okay. Honestly though, if the elevation at Lake Titicaca made you so violently ill why in the world are you even considering a fairly high altitude mountain city when you're pregnant?!?! Cheers, Terry PS "... Are there alternative natural, safe remedies for altitude...

Art Hotel in Poblado?
Published (2009-12-11 14:57:00)
Terry--Thanks for your reply. The few people who have stayed there really liked it but one person who has NOT stayed there but is a local guide says it's noisy. I tried to reply to Eric on poorbuthappyin colombia, but that site is closed to new members. Is there any way to get a message to him asking that question? Thanks... Louise

Decameron Baru Beach

Think about this one. They cancelled my flight from Toronto Jan 11 but not the one from Dec 21 and 28. After that they added a transit to Toronto from Montreal . and now cancel all until Feb. No one from Nolitours contacted me. All info came from different sources and I advised Canjet 4 days before the official note from Nolitours. Now I have to choose another destination at the last minute at the higher price with less choice

I will be traveling solo in Medellin 12/23 - 12/27I am definitely planning on heading out to a few restaurants/bars and nightclubs. Everyone seems to suggest that I head out with at least one other person. Anyone in the same boat? experienced traveler...mid 30's (not much Spanish) ho ho ho

Art Hotel in Poblado?
Published (2009-12-15 00:13:00)
I'm at the Art Hotel right now. Reserving final judgment. It's a cool space with lots of high tech amenities and the staff is super friendly. There is some noise from the clubs at Parque Lleras, as well as traffic on nearby streets. It's not nearly so loud as my street-front room in Cartagena was. So I guess it really depends on your sensitivity. If you need dead silent, this place is not going to work for you. If you...

Go to Andres Carne de res!!! I had such an amazing night there; comparing it to nightlife in Toronto , SO much cheaper to party and get bottle service there. The restaurant has a really cool concept - we were given cowboy hats when we walked in. Honestly, the only other nightclub I've ever really enjoyed besides Andres was Coco Bongo in Cancun . so..GO! Touristy things...do the salt mine cathedral (charge your battery because being in...

Just enjoyed 28 days in Medellin. Was real lucky as Aventura was playing in a concert there so I was able to attend that as well. Many of my friends live in the poorer barrios thru out the City and this trip, they advised me to not expect invites to their homes.

Decameron Baru Beach
Published (2009-12-09 20:13:00)
Our trip to Decameron Baru Beach Resort in Colombia from Toronto as been cancelled a couple of weeks ago. I've heard on the Cartagene the Indias's site that Nolitours has offered a 250$ rebate for the cnacellations from Montreal till the end of January. Does someone knows something about this? Have you been in this situation?

Little did I know , editing is not allowed. Well to continue, having arrived in laurelas, I started to walk around and noticed many dozens of cool restaurants all over the place, especially on La Setenta and Nutabera.
I tried one after another and started compiling a personal list of my favorites.
There were days I never left the laurelas area, there were ...

Hi there! Hopefully someone will reply to us, because I have the same questions you do! Do you mind me asking what airline you are flying? I'm in South Florida, and we are looking at Avianca as they have direct flights out of Miami, But they are close to $500 -- yikes. This is surprising to me, as you can fly to costa and PR from Miami for usually $200ish. Anyway, I'm looking to see if ...

Not a clue about that resort, but it's on a very underdeveloped and poor island that doesn't get much tourist traffic so I'd be surprised if anyone here has solid, dependable information.
I'd suggest contacting Decameron directly, but even then I'd take everything they say with a grain of salt.
Good luck.
Cheers,
Terry

I went to Colombia with my ex-bf when I was 19 and my mom almost had an aneurysm when I told her.
Use common sense as you would anywhere else. The people there are very nice and very proud. A lot of people travel there under the assumption that everyone is poor and they don't bring expensive/nicer clothing. This is wrong! You want to fit in. I made sure I was dressed to ...

Posada CocoBay offers very simple accommodation, but its location is really beautiful, overlooking Cayo Cangrejo. The snorkeling is great.
It is quite isolated. There are no restaurants, grocery stores or services nearby. You'll need a golf cart or a scooter.
That hotel is really, really small too. Be sure you book well in advance.
Have fun. Providencia ...

First night in Medellin, just got back from Parque Lleras (alone). It feels way safer than my hometown (Oakland). I suppose if you got staggering drunk you could find trouble, but that's true most everywhere. People are muy amable. Very little English spoken. (And yes, the women are stunning.)

I've never heard of the Santa Cruz Hotel, but a quick Google shows it on Calle de la Moneda. If that's true then it's within the walls of the old city which is generally very safe.
The Marlin is in Getsemani, an old neighbourhood just outside the walls. It has loads of backpacker accommodation and inexpensive restaurants, etc. It's a doggier area, but perfectly fine if you ...
