I feel the need to point out to Americans especially that the world is facing an environmental crisis and just because your country refuses to ratify Kyoto that does not mean you should require other countries to meet your demand for energy. We have a policy of restricting AC to 26 degrees at work (I slip to 25 at home as I come from a cool climate!). Hotels in China are working hard to raise their environmental awareness policies.

yep, it's very close to the wujiaochang commercial area with all kinds of shopping place, and it's close to 2 very famous universities in shanghai, but the location is not really good for travel around shanghai. during the rush hour i think the traffic is quite terrible since one bus i took during my entire university life needed to get through yangpu bridge from pudong, then wu jiao chang then my home...

Are you planning to visit Plaza Hollywood and Harbour City on the one day? I think you'd get awfully tired, if that was the case, as they're both in completely different locations! And, not to mention, you wish to be back to Disneyland by 5PM, which is really limiting the time you have (could you perhaps leave earlier than 11AM? The reason being is that you'll take a while to get out from Disneyland, anyway, and you need to...

Late checkout by the latest 3 pm sounds reasonable n most hotels will oblige during nonpeak season.Otherwise just check out by 3 n leave yr luggages at the concierge.

There has been construction on the Bund. You can see the view to Pudong from the bridge at the north end of the Bund near the Astor Hotel (Pujiang Fandian). There are also some restaurants and bars on the Bund you could go to that are high enough up that you would still get a view over the construction. You can also get a nice river view of the Bund from the other side of the river in Pudong.

Indoboyz, There will be no snow in the town itself. But there is snow on Jade Dragon Snow Mountain year round. Western New Year (1st January) Is not a big holiday in China. There is a bar street in Old Lijiang if you want to celebrate tho:) Liyen, As the previous posts say - the temp in Lijiang at this time of year is comfortable. Not too cold during the day, but it is cold at night. Yes the scenic places are still available.

I think you will find it is against the child welfare laws to leave children alone in the hotel room while adults go out to the casinos ...
You could see if the Victoria still has rooms available - it's not among the casinos but is the most convenient hotel for the Gongbei border crossing. The Guangdong Fu Hua is also worth a look.
For the Hengqin bridge crossing, try the ...

I'd definitely go Monday rather than Sunday. Ferries will be full and the streets crowded. Macau streets are very narrow. It would be hard to keep track of your family in the crowds.

China Hong Kong Ferry Terminal is closer to Mongkok, good if you are taking a taxi to it. Macau Ferry Terminal is linked to an MTR station.
Also you should consider the time to go and returning since the ferries has different running times.
Venetian is nearer by CotaiJet.

Kathy, your welcome. Catching a long distance train in China is a bit like catching a flight LOL.
You go thru security when you enter the station. Only people with tickets are allowed into the building. That is why it is so crowded out the front of stations - families & friends saying goodbye.
There will be a board up showing which waiting room your train is departing from. ...

Rainbow is fine to eat in, but I prefer the smaller places in Sok Kwu Wan.
Most of the shopping malls in Hong Kong have similar shops.
Langham Place and Festival Walk have similar shops.
Horizon Plaza has home furnishings.

There are lots of other things to visit. Yonghegong Lamasary would be high on the list. It does depend on your interests--if you like art, go to 798 Art District, for example.

The soft sleepers are clean and comfortable. The main thing is that you save money for the hotel that night.
However I never take train ride so long. Just a matter of taste. I like a comfortable bed and to have a shower in the morning.
These trains are not cheap and it can be cheaper to fly. If there are 2 of you then what you save by flying can pay for the hotel room.
I ...

What an weird observation(!?) which I certainly don't agree.
I lived in Shanghai for 2 years and I have no clue of how to speak Shanghainese, yet still able to make a living and buy what I want even at local wet markets.
Before you show off your knowledge of "WWII history", may be you should read books date back to, let's say 200 years , and find out the ...

I would have to say 'yes'. Since things tend to be made to order, you can ask for them to not use MSG, but sometimes some will get in there anyway either because the message doesn't get to the kitchen, there is some in a prepared sauce or ingredient they are using, or they think just a little won't hurt.

Pay at the end incase the guide is crap
If the guide is an official guide they will gain free entry except for one place that I can't remember. Can't recommend using an unofficial guide.
You can invite to lunch if you wish, don't have to... but if you do it would be polite to pay for their lunch.
Hmmm... iguess you will have to pay for ...

Taxi - about $220 plus luggage fee ($5 per piece in the boot).
Airport express train - $90 per person to Kowloon Station (discount tickets available for groups of 2 to 4), then short taxi ride to BP.
Airport bus A21 - $33 per person. Get off at Prudential Centre, then walk about 250 meters to BP.

Thank you for your report. I am planning to visit Xian as part of my China trip next April with my 12 year old son. Its always interesting to hear what other kids of that age enjoyed, especially in the evenings. I do not want his holiday to be museum and temple overload!

April and May are good weatherwise. Avoid the first week of May as it is a national holiday. Expo in Shanghai may be more busy in the initial days, especially during the May holidays.
