You won't make it. Even without waiting for bags, you have to wait in line for immigration. I'm with Al, have a beer and watch the people.

I think the itinerary Hickatee sent you sounds good. I am not sure you want to spend all your time in PG though. There is so much to see in Belize - maybe you want to split the trip up and spend part in PG and part elsewhere. The Cayo district inland is the usual hopping off place for tours to Tikal. I am not sure how you would get there from PG in any easy way, especially by water taxi??? Maybe spend the first part of the trip at Hickatee...

Yes Check with Maya Air. One of my staff recently sailed to Utila from Ambergris Caye and then flew back. I am pretty sure flights are still operating. Just a question of timing http://www.mayaregional.com/

Tikal is great, I would suggest staying at one of the lodges in the park, La Lancha is great but expensive, and I prefer staying in the park anyway. You can fly to Flores from Belize International, get a Tikal tour from there, then fly down to PG. Or reverse it and put it at the end of your trip. As you plan to spend future holidays in Belize , there is no need to rush and do everything at once. You will definitely not be bored with 10 days...

I think the good budget places are still: Ruby's, Martha's and Pedros. You'll have to google them for more information -- I don't want to to be banned for soliciting/advertising/promoting these hotels.

The beaches are pretty much uniformly nice the entire length of the peninsula. The better hotels will probably charge a bit more for tours using better boats and vehicles, but not much more. The village has mostly budget to moderate rates; the more upscale lodging starting at about two miles from the village and further.

Beaches
Published (2009-12-29 00:40:00)
Me and my girlfriend were just in St. Martin/Maarten. While that is a very busy island, there are some excellent beaches there. Some secluded, most real white sand with tourqoise water. Anquilla had some of the best beaches ever, and very secluded and the island is much slower than St. M. Decided I like the slower Anguilla but very expensive to go there. Where will I find beaches that are similar in Belize if possible. I mean, sandy, where...

It would be very tight. As I recall, the ride to the water taxi is around 25 minutes. Not much to do while waiting other than drinking the local beer and watching the people. The ride to San Pedro is an hour and a half. He may want to fly back.

You will not find high rises or much in the way of commercialism anywhere in Belize . The three beach areas are Ambergris, Caulker, and Placencia. I prefer Ambergris, as there are more restaurants, bars, and shops, and generally more to do. That being said, we stay just south of town, so can easily walk to those restaurants, bars, and shops. There are plenty of places to stay, none ...

Congrats on your engagement. Toledo is our lushest district with diverse cultures and many interesting villages. Two excavated sites, Blue Creek cave, great birding and river trips. I would stay in Placencia for beach and visit the Jaguar Preserve with 535 species of birds. Stay in or drive thru Cayo for Tikal. Cayo has many impressive sites and incredible cave trips. I've never been to Anguilla , but I understand they have some of the most beautiful beaches any where. You aren't going to find world class beaches any where in Belize . The softest whitest sand that I've seen is on Ambergris. But, the proximity of the reef means no waves and lots of sea grass. Placencia has very pretty beaches, but the sand isn't white or soft....

You seem concerned with beach quality. I have to say, essentially Caulker has not much in the way of beaches. Most swimming is done at the 'split', but even there, there isn't much for a beach. If it's beach you want, go to Placencia.

Where are you going to be in Belize ? If on Ambergris, you can fly to Corozal, then proceed by car or bus across the border to Chetumal. There's also a water taxi to Corozal called the Thunderbolt, but I read it may not be running as often as its web site states. There's also a new water taxi that runs weekend days from San Pedro straight to Chetumal. If you are...

The so called secluded island is about 28 miles long with a town of 6K people on it and proly several dozen resorts. the boat ride depends on the tour but probably in the 1.5 hour range. The reef breaks the waves so you dont have ocean swells but you can expect wavy water. AC runs N and S and the town of SP takes up the entire width of the island so their discription confuses me. 1 mile...

I'd plan to be in Placencia 3 days either side of the full moon when 45 ft docile whale sharks congregate off the coast and are incredible to see while diving or snorkeling. You can do day trips to the mainland from Placencia to see both jungle and Mayan sites. Or move to the Toledo or Cayo districts for these activities. Corozal is okay, but does not offer what you seem to be looking ...

Do you want to dive or snorkel at the Blue Hole? Or just see it? From the air or the water? It's about 2 1/2 hours by boat from Ambegris Caye. I've never been so I can't tell you if it's worth it or not. There are lots of places to see howler monkeys in Belize . I've seen them both times on day trips to the ruins at Lamanai. What part of the country are you ...

"Mario" at VIP TRANSFERS out of Corozal is fantastic. We had him transfer us to/from Chetumal (MX) to Corozal (BEZ) last year January 2009. With his help, the border process couldn't have gone smoother, and he was very knowledgeable about Belize and had some great suggestions. All this for US $10. per person each way. The company does transfers in Mexico, Belize, Guatemala , but can ...

The Placencia is about 12 mile north of the village and they are deep in construction on their properties just north and west of the hotel. The only dive op who might be running a trip to the BH would be Avadon Divers, but I wouldn't count on it. They probably will, however, run trips to Glovers atoll and South Water Caye reserve, both excellant sites. There are two waterfall trails in ...

The beaches along AC are a disappointment, not suitable for much unless the resort keeps them swept. In the water the turtle grass can sometimes cut your feet. No rocks but as part of the ancient reef, chunks of coral can protrude here and there. My wife needed stitches after walking along the waterline a few years ago. There is a small tide but usually no wave action. But it's not the ...

I'm not a real big fan of Royal Caribbean Resort, based solely on the fact that it seems to resemble a barracks. Several rows of small yellow cabins. There is a large pool. I've read that the units are very nice inside. The resort is a couple of miles south of town, you'd want to take a cab at night. Ambergris is easy to travel to by yourself. I've done it a couple...

There are several tour companies on Caulker that do the Lamanai tour. It is a full day tour and not really in the same direction as where they do the cave tubing/zip line. So it would be 2 separate tours on 2 days. If you want to do both, and don't already have your accommodations booked, you may want to go and stay on the mainland for a few nights and do both tours from there. It will ...
