The Omaha Memorial Museum on Omaha beach is closed in January but the
D-Day museum in Arromanches is open every day, as is the tapestry in Bayeux (from 2pm on the 2nd) and most restaurants will be open.

Hi -
Consider taking an evening train to Caen or
Bayeux, spending the night and touring the beaches the following day. You can then take a late train back to Paris .

If you have a day to spare a car will give you the flexibility to explore a bit more of Normandy . There is so much more to the area than just Bayeux and the beaches, worthwhile as those are. Between Paris and Bayeux you could visit Château Gaillard, Rouen and Jumièges,
just for starters.

Something else to watch out for (that I was not aware of until after the fact) is the speed cameras that are set up in various areas.
I was driving to Bayeux
early one morning along the highway when a bright flash went off.....
I can only assume my rental car company will be contacting me with the ticket amount whatever that will be.

Not knowing your exact dates I put in
17 september, and got fares for around 20€ each way
Fares will be no cheaper on the day.

Caen with connecting services on to Bayeux on a Sunday leaving St Lazare at 9.45, 11.45 and 14.45.
