Great Hotel in Athens?
Published (2009-12-01 20:29:00)
Hello and Happy Anniversary! King George had some great offers between Easter and Summer of 2009 and they might repeat something similar in 2010. This hotel is known for its "sympathy" for newlyweds and those who celebrate special occasions so it's worth emailing them and mention that it is your anniversary. They will probably offer you a free upgrade or a good rate.

Moped Rental in Athens

I agree. Please don't even think on doing so. Athens traffic is just plain horrible, while for a first-time two-wheel driver is dangerous too. I used to be a motorcycle driver for more than 16 years. I still remember my first day of driving in Athens arriving as an experienced driver already and thinking that everybody would smash on me. It is a very aggressive way of driving which i found to compare only to this of Cairo ( although...

overnight athens airport?
Published (2009-11-30 21:15:00)
Hey kanilo and welcome:-) Don't see why not..if if doesn't bother you hanging around the airport for the interval! A late (or last) flight out of Santorini depending on carrier can be anywhere from 10p onwards..If you have one of those super crack-of-dawn departures all the better..leaving you with what sounds like an approx maybe 6 hours or so layover..You will find folks at the airport at ALL hours..there's even a Sofitel...

Greece Itinerary for 9 Days

Quote: This life time trip is all about seeing history, exp. Greek culture..... Unquote: If this is your aim, you should not go to islands like Santorini or just leave a short stay in Crete (Crete is almost a continent on its own). Santorini is one of the most tourist influenced islands of them all, and is equally expensive - but it has got some fantastic scenery. You will also find interesting historical sites and scenery in Crete, but...

hi greecetravelCY, I haven't stayed in either, but know that both hotels went through extensive renovation in the last few years, the KG being the latest..further to this know this is also the case with the GBretagne, well suggested by Litsa..and all 3 hotels are practically next to one another >> as room size is a decisive factor, why not contact the hotel directly and ask the metres...{for GB if I am not mistaken this...

Greece Itinerary for 9 Days

ANother scenario --- when you arrive fly straight to RHODES for 2-3 days ... explore OLD TOWN (but read up on the Crusades beforehand... the history in Old Town is all about middle ages) .. you can drive/bus to Lindos which has an acropolis, heavily restored but a great view. THen take OVERNIGHT ferry (travel whlle you sleep) to Santorini , and spend ONE DAY & a Night ... it's all about the View, not much history. Tak OVERNIGHT...

i have stayed at both the attalos and the cecil.the attalos is typical athens concrete block but the rooms are ok and the roof top bar is really nice with great acropolis views.the cecil is an older building with more "character" and a very interesting lift.again rooms are fine, basic but clean and comfortable.the breakfast at the cecil is pretty average, slightly better at the attalos....

No frustration at all!
IMO, this is a good thing. Use the days you'd be on a (quite lousy) cruise to go to one (or more, depending on the days) places and actually see it. Not pass-by it!

Hi there
My personal take, even with your penchant for a fast paced itinerary, is that this is going to be a whistle stop blast around 2-3 islands and Athens and you really won't get much of a feel for any of the places you intend heading for. You have just one full day on Paros, then one full day on Santorini , then one full day in Athens, so in fact, of your second week,...

Well, if you live in the "burbs" you'll probably not notice. All places under 70sq.m. have applied to be smoking but the mayors haven't signed anything yet.
Bar owners over 70sq.m. found a loophole and are still operating as smoking places.
Downtown is more strict because municipality police are checking more closely. Still, things are more "relaxed' after a certain hour of the day (...

Hi there
As you are no doubt aware, the Grande Bretagne sits right on Syntagma Square so is ideally located to see Athens ' major sights. The Novotel sits about 2 kms northwest from the GB and whilst I'm sure it's a good enough place to stay, it's making for a very long walk and back to see the sights. There are two Red Line Metro stations within 500 meters or so (Larissa & ...

Not sure about prostitutes and homeless people but you might encounter some grug using.
Omonia is more ugly than it is unsafe and it is not too convenient for sightseeing, eating, clubbing, walking, shopping...
If you can afford Amazon, it is the best located from all the hotels that you mention above.

Indeed :)
I am very happy you managed to see all these. It is a city full of things to see and enjoy, and you certainly managed quite a lot :)
I am really sorry you had to go through the zoo condition when reaching the Olympic Stadium. It was indeed a very unfortunate decision for metro service to block these two station on the specific weekend. So, i am waiting a bit ...

You will not see the Autumn Ferry schedules until some time in Spring. However, there is no need to book ahead, unless you are going on a truly MAJOR holiday weekend (there is none in September) and taking a " fast ferry" -- passenger capacity 400 or so vs 1,000-1600 on a regular ferry.
It's good to understand the ferry Routes, however. Get familiar with the website that shows...
