Day Trip to San Antonio de Areco

Hopefully, by March/April, the weather will be much better and the flooding will be over. I must confess to really being sick and tired of the rain :)

It is better to book your tickets as far ahead of departure as possible, since many tickets book up quickly for those destinations during holiday periods. Have a look at www.lan.com,www.aerolineas.com and check for the highly discounted tickets. Waiting till you get to Argentina will not get you a better ticket price. Travel agencies cannot get better prices on airflights, but may get you a better package with the hotels.

See other posts on this topic. Do not buy pesos before. Just use your ATM card when you arrive. Note that Visa debit cards seem to be commission free - I have never paid any commission which others seem to complain about

Visa Reciprocity Fee for US...

Sigh. I give up. Rant away about the awfulness of American policies even as you criticize Americans who presume to criticize the policies of other countries. Or, better yet, take Veritas's advice and open a cold Quilmes. Suerte.

that is exactly what many airlines are doing, from central america to europe with no stop in the usa. infact if you had even bothered reading what i wrote, i said i find it ridiculous and appalling that people WHO ARE ACTUALLY NOT EVEN GOING TO THE USA but happen to be in transit, have to go through the gestapo like immigration and if they need a visa they have to go through the nightmare too. again: that is exactly what argentinians and...

Day Trip to San Antonio de Areco

Just in case anyone is here at the moment and reading this thread - San Antonio and much of the surrounding area was severely flooded last week and the clean-up operation will take a while. So it is not a place to visit right now. This was last week: …bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/8433262.stm

Iphones are 110/220 as well as all apple computers ( most others also). your Iphone can be charged by simply using an adapter.. you co not need a converter.. If you want you can even purchase (expensive) apple's travel plugs if you want
Most likely you camera is also 110/220 just check your battery charger and it will say.
So for both the cheapest and best way is ...

It's possible to go to San Antonio de Areco via bus( www.omnilineas.com ).
Have a look at the schedules. It's a bit tight with the bus schedules and makes for a long day if you don't plan on spending the night.

I am aware of the VISA fees the US imposes on visitors from many other countries but --- this stinks.
For a family of four, this is a substantial chunk of change, particularly nowadays. As news of this new "reciprocity" fee gets out, to travel agents and individual travelers, I can only assume the effect will be rather quick and cutting, a real drop in visitors to ARG. Yet, ...

If you plan to exchange currency at a local "cambio" establishment, you must have your passport with you; photocopies are not accepted.

Great idea. Go for it.
I did the same in Bangkok for 3 months one winter about ten years back, when internet connections weren't what they are now. So I am sure you won't have any problems in this day and age.
I am interested that you have picked Sao Paulo as one of your destinations, as it is totally untouristy. I find it an unattractive city, but my friends who live ...

Hi Barca tripleta, I think this doesn't apply to you , is only for American citizens with USA passports., not for EU citizens or EU passport holders. Just to make sure ask your embassy. By the way, we are big Barca fans too!!

With only 6 days, a driving trip is not warranted. There is just alot of open land between BA and Mendoza. Car rentals are very expensive in Argentina and the roadways near BA can be dangerous at times.
You are best served by flying between the two locations then renting a car in Mendoza to explore.
Have a look at www.lan.com, and www.aerolineas.com for airflights.

I have noticed, as I wanted to rent thru Bytargentina as well, is that the best thing to do is come to Buenos Aires , go to a hotel for a couple of days and look around on your own (in case you plan to stay longer). There are a lot of imobiliarias in every neighborhood. So just go where you want to live and look for an apartment in this area.

You can't get Argentinian pesos in UK.
There are ATM's at the airport and this is probably your best bet.
