Another pic of the same position from a slightly different angle : The valley to the left of the picture is actually the small valley descending towards the small hamlet of ROUETTE. Several years ago, when I showed Mark my latest find at the hotel Melba in Bastogne, which was in fact the dog tag of a 501st trooper lost on January 3, 1945 in Jack's woods, and on which we later worked out a trade against a few - still highly treasured -...

I think it's that we as a nation have left out the almighty for the most part. I am guilty of that myself most of the time. people are disillusioned, struggling "just to get by". They are looking for love in all the wrong places, so to speak. We have become a society of "get it now", "I want immidiate gratification". And lets face it, the higher being rarely works that way. Remember...

if only I could have the opportunity to make a tribute to the 17th with some of the many 17th ab division's battle relics i have, i'd proud of it, but
the present day bastogne politics are banning anyone and anybody working outside their field of interest to set a foot ouside the off limit zone of their so
called politically correct american frienship.
so sorry

Mark, Barb and I are very sorry to hear about Jill losing her Mom, and your loss also. Of course we will say a prayer for Brenda and Jill
and also you Mark. Barb and I had a great time when we went out to lunch with your Mom and Jill a few years
back. Jill is a very nice girl and we pray God will comfort her in this great time of need.

All well and good - this time. But Gingerich tends to go mushy too much. When he became Speaker in 1994, he provided no leadership, and set a course that ended
with loss of both the House and Senate in 2006 - followed by the election of our Muslim-Socialist President Hussein in 2008.
I'm finished with politicians who patronize me with pseudo- conservatism when it benefits THEM!

Drew,
Here is brain fart relief for you.
Next time you are at the NMUSAF, Dayton, buy a small booklet, Fahey's, "US Army Aircraft 1908-1946". The museum has had it reprinted several
times. It is not entirely accurate but is an excellent guide.

C-49 (plus 49A,B, C,D,E,F,G,H,J,K) 138 in 41-42-43

Better than Beevor's book, better than Keegan's too, and definitely better than Ambrose. Despite being written years ago, Hastings' Overlord
stands up very well as an overview of the battle of Normandy. It's is second only to D'Este IMHO

Amazingly, this demonstates that what had always been my assumption that D and/or E 502 was dug in on the high ridge left of Longchamps, was in full error.
They were dug in well below this slope...I assume, from there that a second line of fox-holes was probably dug on top of the ridge in case the forward line
would collapse. More than fifty german grenadiers were killed along the road to ...
