Christmas Day in New York
Published (2009-12-12 20:57:00)
Most of New York City shuts down on Christmas Day. I believe that the Zagat restaurant guide for New York lists restaurants that are open on Holidays. Why don't you email the hotel you are staying at, and ask them for recommendations? When you arrive, get a copy of the Sunday New York Times. It usually has a page of ads for restaurants that are serving special Christmas dinners (you need to reserve). Also, you might want to get a copy of...

Need help - SOHO area, NYC...

Alrighty then...here we go. I'm coming to NYC on 2/13/10 for an overnight trip for an event all day long on Crosby St., which is apparently in the SOHO area. My friend and I are going to stay overnight friday, the event is all day Saturday, ending around 6-7pm. We're looking for a good hotel that's not too expensive and not sure what to do for parking. We want to drive right home after. We are not opposed whatsoever to taking...

I'd like to know the street intersection before I can give you a green or red light.

"Hosts" Collide in NYC!
Published (2009-12-13 23:45:00)
Greetings from HostBonjour in NYC, where I recently had the great pleasure of welcoming to NYC our other great Board Host, HostCiao, who was here on holiday in our fair city and we had the chance to do a long scheduled day together on a rainy, but otherwise fun "Host" day in NYC! We two have been working here at IndependentTraveler.com since days have long gone by - probably more than 13 years or so and we had never met until...

Christmas Day in New York

I assure you will not starve. I would contact your hotel and ask them for suggestions near the hotel. If its a large hotel, their restaurant will certainly be open.

We are travelling to New York from Australia with our 2 children (19 and 17) and will be there from 19 December until 27 December.
Could anyone please suggest a good restaurant which is open on Christmas Day? We have tried Buddakan but unfortunately they aren't open.
Also, any other suggestions for activities during our stay would be most appreciated. We were in NYC in April a couple ...

Sir: I've lived in New York for half-a-century and visit London a great deal. I think that Hamilton Heights is not a good choice for a visitor and his family. It is part of Haarlem, and would be like renting an apartment in Brixton. I doubt that you would feel safe entering or leaving the premises after dark. And if the building had no doorman, you might not feel safe at anytime.
If your...

Google the Chinatown bus. I think one of those operators runs a bus from Toronto to NYC.
One more thing, if you're not from New York City, leave the driving to the locals.

I have never gone into NYC from Newark airport, but all of the NY area airports have information on their websites about the different modes of transportation into the city. So I would get on the Newark website and see what is there. Some hotels near the airport will offer pick-up service but if you are going into the city that is not likely an option. The fares for taxis from the NY area ...

Hi sonapop,
I LOVE THE BIG APPLE CIRCUS!!
It's better than the 3 ring mayhem of Ringling Bros!!
My first time seeing it was at Cunningham Park back when it was just getting started in the late 80's and I was in college. The circus was doing their banking at our bank and offered us some tickets, which was really nice and I was one of the lucky ones that got to go. I thought, "well...
