If you have your own car you can do the following: One day is enough for Madaba, Nebo, Dead Sea, Karak and arriving in Petra. Second day, You can do Petra in one day if you started early. Third Day, Wadi Rum in the morning, Aqaba afternoon and back to Petra. Fourth Day, you may visit Shobak and Jerash in your way to Amman for leaving. This how I helped Vanessa to do it last week. If you are coming from Lebanon and you have a syrian visa, you...

I think it is more of unlucky experience, everywhere you get good and bad people and a stereotype can be a majority I think. I had a real bad experience in latvia but it was more hostel and people there at time then the country which made me think bad of it at the time. The experience I had was girl in my group when out with her father had a guy joke how many camels he could trade for his daughter. I would agree that many people in Egypt do...

Be very, VERY careful in Jordan. Jordanese men tend to think of western women as prostitutes, just because you're from the west. Covering up doesn't make you completely safe, some men still see your blue eyes and pale skin and think they can touch you whenever they want, where ever they want. No matter where you are in Jordan, always be careful, also in Petra, and Wadi Musa. I had a few unpleasant experiences in Jordan myself when...

Hi Melanie, Like everyone else I'm sorry to hear you had a hard time travelling through those countries. I understand it isn't always easy traveling as a female, particularily in a smaller groups, let alone travellling solo. I think alot of woman can relate to this type of verbal, physical and mental abuse and it is not always so easy to deal with while travelling or at home. Damn Cat Calls! First off you are travelling in an Arab...

thks all. i just came back from jordan and it was awesome. i ended up renting a car for 2 full days and go around with it. otherwise, it will be a total disaster as our timing is really limited so there weren't any room for even the slightest delay. didn't manage to go to aqaba but did all the rest as planned. petra & wadi rum are both superb and must do in jordan. all the best to any future travellers.

Melanie, first of all i want to apologize on behalf of those that harrassed and hurt you, no excuse whatsoever. I can totally see this happening, Arab men are not used to seeing women solo travellers, (this sentence was completed by a sweeping generalisation which could very well be interpreted as racist, even if not so intended, which has been removed by moderator). I would recommend anyone going to any Arab country to use a head...

Yes Melanie, in my personal experience people in this region have no respect for women. Its sad but true. The majority of Egyptians we had dealings with were horrible. I use the word horrible as if i wrote my true feelings my post would be deleted! There is sexual harrassment - both verbal and physical - for women even in a couple (not solo). Cheating, scamming, deceit and a whole host of other misdemeanors aimed at foreigners. Racist and...

3-4 days is more than enough. I was at all places you mention in 3 days last summer. In fact I was from Amman to Petra in one day passing Dead sea. I've put up a blog if you care to read it.

Hi Melanie, do you know if this only happened to female travellers travelling on their own? Our experience in Egpyt wasn't that bad but I am guessing that's because there were only 2 female out of the 6 of us and we have local guides most of the time.
